    Job Title: Gymnastics Camp Lead Counselor Pay Grade: 4

    FLSA Status: Non-Exempt - Seasonal Pay Range: $13.34-$16.67-$20.01

    Reports to: Gymnastics Coordinator Revision Date: 3.10.2026

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Builds members and the community's understanding of the YMCA's impact.

    This position provides direct supervision to a group of children and leadership in assisting other staff in a seasonal day camp setting with a focus on gymnastics. Provides positive engagement with youth in a safe, nurturing environment. Provides quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
    1. Builds personal and meaningful relationships with YMCA members, participants, volunteers, and guests. While exemplifying Y's commitment to the four-character values of caring, honesty, respect & responsibility and responding to all member and community inquiries promptly.
    2. Leads energizing, fun, culturally aware, and safe camp activities, as directed by the Gymnastics Coordinator, to carry out the YMCA mission.
    3. Experience working children in grades k-5.
    4. Provide direct supervision and instruction to gymnastic participants following the YMCA best practices, policies, and procedures
    5. Assists with planning and setting up lesson plans and structure of camp with Gymnastics Coordinator.
    6. Follow all YMCA emergency and safety procedures.
    7. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary and reports problems, complaints, or concerns of participants to the Gymnastics Coordinator, promptly.
    8. Participates in staff meetings, training, events, reviews, and other scheduled events.
    9. Set-up class equipment, ensure proper use, and be accountable for housekeeping in the gymnastics area, bleachers, cubbies, and program closet.
    10. Maintains attendance records in an orderly and efficient manner.
    11. Upholds all YMCA policies, procedures, standards, and code of conduct.
    12. Project a positive, enthusiastic, and professional image on the job. Be punctual and dependable.
    13. Be self-motivated and have the ability to work both independently and as a team member.
    14. Fulfills any other functions designated by the YMCA Administration.


    Requirements:

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    1. At least 18 years of age
    2. 2+ years of gymnastics or related camp or teaching experience is preferred.
    3. Must pass a background check and finger printing (if required).
    4. Must have a basic knowledge of gymnastics.
    5. Must have behavioral management skills.
    6. Effective verbal communication skills.
    7. CPR/First Aid/AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training completed prior to camp start date.
    8. Must have knowledge of proper use of gymnastics equipment.
    9. Ability to lift equipment and spot children.
    10. Ability to create and follow daily lesson plans.


    Compensation details: 13.34-20.01 Hourly Wage
