Overview The Heavy Equipment Mechanic in the Storm Water division is responsible for providing the highest quality of maintenance, and repair for the variety of equipment that the Public Works Department has.
Responsibilities • Diagnose and determine if the heavy equipment, light equipment, and tractors can be repaired or if they need to be replaced
• Use testing equipment to diagnose equipment malfunctions then repair in accordance with the service manuals, manufacturers specifications
• Complete work orders, fill in required data to open/ close work orders
• Calculate materials, supplies and parts that are needed for repairs
• Coordinate with Work Coordinators to schedule maintenance and repairs
• Obey all traffic laws while operating fleet vehicle and equipment from one location to another. Follow all City policies. Be able to operate on even or uneven terrain such as streets and earthen rights-of-way
• Performs daily Pre/Post - trip inspections on all types of equipment and vehicles
• General house keeping around the shop such as but not limited to: keep walkways clear, clean up spills, block off hazards, remove trash, dispose of property, keep tool boxes and work stations organized
• Maintains safe keeping of materials and supplies in storage area
• Able to communicate with internal and external customers. When given a request, ensure proper communication with the Foreman, work coordinator planner/ scheduler, and Assistant Director
• Completes daily reports and work orders legibly
• Respond to after hours and weekends emergencies. Must work under emergency responses during and/ or after any city emergency event. Examples: Hurricanes, tropical storms, ice storms or any other City emergency. All employees will work On-Call Duty rotation schedule and must be able to work different rotation shift under emergency responses
• Follow the Traffic control standards as per the Texas MUTCD Work Zone Traffic Control Guide. Direct traffic control at jobsite by flagging, cones, barrel and barricades. Know how to setup water barriers, Type I, II, II Barricade during normal and emergency operations
• May be asked to perform other duties as assigned
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work • Non - Exempt - Full-Time
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement

Qualifications • High School Diploma/ GED
• Two (2) years of Experience
Licenses and Certifications Required • A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire
Required within one (1) year of hire • Texas Commercial Drivers License Class A with air brake endorsement

Basis of Rating A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications and may request additional information. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
