    Definition and Class Characteristics

    INTERVIEWS FOR SELECTED CANDIDATES WILL BE HELD APRIL 30, 2026

    The Public Health Department promotes the health of the entire community through varied programs ranging from control of communicable diseases and coordination of the response to health emergencies to individual case management to primary prevention of disease and wellness promotion. We are seeking a Health Technician to bring value to a strong, engaged team whose mission is to prevent disease, promote and support optimal health and wellness, and protect the community against disasters!

    This Health Technician’s primary responsibility will be in the California Children’s Services (CCS) program providing Enhanced Care Management for CCS clients.

    Examples of Duties

    • Identify potential ECM clients within the CCS program and provide outreach to them about ECM services.
    • Enroll new CCS clients in ECM.
    • Provide non-medical case management to enrolled clients by working with Partnership HealthPlan of California to address challenges with client receiving timely specialty and primary care services working with the client and team to collect data for creating and updating care plans for each client.
    • Facilitate referrals and linkages to appropriate medical, behavioral health, social, educational, housing, food, transportation, and other necessary services with team support.
    • Maintain current knowledge of ECM requirements, updates, and best practices.
    • Perform administrative duties to organize, track, and follow up on casework.
    • Attend meetings, contributing updates to clients’ care plans, and following up with relevant tasks and information.

    Knowledge and Skills Required

    Health Technician I:

    This is an entry and trainee-level class in the series. Incumbents function in a training and learning capacity while performing basic and less difficult assignments under close supervision. As incumbents learn program principles, procedures, and assignments they can reasonably expect promotion to the higher level of Health Technician II when qualified.

    This position is part-time temporary; part-time employees work an average of 20 hours but not more than 29 hours per week, for a maximum of 960 hours per fiscal year. Temporary employees earn sick leave but are not eligible for other vacation or holiday pay, medical, dental, or vision benefits, or CalPERS.

    Sick Leave:

    Temporary County employees shall accrue at the rate of one (1) hour of sick leave for each thirty (30) hours worked. Temporary County employees can accrue a maximum of 80 hours of sick leave which may be carried over from one fiscal year to the next.

    Medical Benefits:

    Temporary employees whose assignments average 30 hours per week or more are eligible to enroll in County-sponsored medical benefits.

Summer temperatures are typically mild, with average highs near 85 degrees in July. Rain in January typically averages ten inches per year and the highest elevations receive an annual average of 206 inches of snow. 

     

    Recreation:

    Scenic trails, alpine lakes, the Yuba River and the Sierra Nevada Mountains all support numerous recreation activities, including skiing, biking, hiking, fishing, kayaking, hunting and backpacking. With a calendar packed with street fairs, festivals, art exhibits, local theater and children’s activities, visitors and locals can experience small-town life without having to forgo indulgence in pleasures more typical of an urban setting. 

     

    Arts and Culture:

    Nevada County is a creative hotspot in the Sierra Nevada, offering an array of experiences, including concerts, film festivals, street fairs, dance performances, poetry readings, studio tours and galleries. The county also has numerous venues for performing arts, many of which are historic settings. The arts have a large economic impact, which has become a vital component to life in Nevada County.
