    Overview

    The Metershop Tech II position provides detailed mechanical and technical aptitude to perform breakdowns, inspections, evaluations, as well as rebuilding and calibrating meters and regulators. Tech II will be responsible for assisting the Metershop Foreman and running the Metershop in the absence of the Foreman. This includes receiving all items delivered to Gas Dept, keeping the Metershop on schedule, delivering refurbished items, and ensuring items are stocked for M&O Gas Appliance Operations and Construction Crews.

    Responsibilities

    • Anticipate and coordinate M&O Appliance and Construction workload supply needs

    • Monitor the work and progress of Metershop crew work

    • Inspect old risers, meters, regulators when they come into the shop

    • Maintain an inventory and report of supplies & equipment needed such as meters, regulators, meter sets, MTUs, cut-off valves, swivels, paint, dials, and gaskets for the Metershop Foreman

    • Operate meter proving machine to ensure accuracy of meter measurement

    • Use knowledge of the inner workings of gas meters and regulators to be able to identify failures and rebuild the equipment

    • Conduct test and certify that every meter is rebuilt and calibrated correctly to be put back into service

    • Accurately record and document rebuilt meter testing

    • File and keep monthly reports of all new, rebuilt, and scrapped meters, while keeping a lifetime record of the gas meters

    • Assist the Metershop Foreman with recording new and bad MTU's

    • Operate a forklift to load, unload, and move materials between storage areas

    • Schedule and/or ship orders and transport materials

    • Examine products to verify shipment quantities, process packing slips, and expedite orders

    • Gather and assemble gas meters with swivels, nuts, gaskets, and install MTUs

    • Assemble regulator loop with fittings and insulated stop cock

    • Other duties as assigned

    Position Type and Typical Hours of Work

    • Non-Exempt - Full-Time - Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm

    • Must be available to work additional hours as needed

    • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement

    • In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

    Minimum Qualifications

    • High School Diploma/GED

    • Two (2) years of experience

    Licenses and Certifications

    Required

    • A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hiring

    Basis of Rating

    A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
