    The Public Works, Facilities & Parks Department (PWFP) brings together a range of functions to ensure safe building construction, plan for the future needs of the County, manage infrastructure and county facilities, and protect natural resources. The Department is responsible for public works, county roads and bridges, county parks, and county facilities.

    The Public Works, Facilities & Parks Department seeks to fill a current Fleet Parts Coordinator vacancy. Under general supervision, the incumbent will inspect motor vehicles and heavy-duty equipment for the purpose of identifying the appropriate parts to order. Performs the duties required for the inventory control and recordkeeping process of a fleet store, which includes researching, purchasing, receiving, inspecting, stocking, issuing, and shipping parts, tools, supplies, and accessories for a wide variety of motor vehicles and heavy-duty equipment; performs other duties as required.

    The Eligible List established by this recruitment process may be used County-wide to fill current and future vacancies on a regular full-time, part-time, or temporary basis.

    This classification is part of a flexible series. Incumbents appointed at the lower level of the career series may be promoted up to the higher level of the career series subject to their meeting the employment standards for the higher class and a recommendation for their promotion by the appointing authority.

    Examples of Duties

    • Receive and verify amount and condition of orders; enter information into inventory database.
    • Research and order parts, tools, supplies, and accessories for a wide variety of motor vehicles and heavy-duty equipment.
    • Issue parts, tools, supplies, and accessories to mechanics or store in appropriate stock location for distribution as needed.
    • Inspect motor vehicles and heavy-duty equipment for the purpose of identifying the appropriate parts to order.
    • Charge parts, tools, supplies and accessories to direct repair orders.
    • Pick up parts from local shops by driving a County vehicle.
    • Remove obsolete parts and equipment from inventory and prepare them for surplus or return to vendor.
    • Organize and maintain inventory room in an orderly condition.

    THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE
    Will have a proven track record demonstrating the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

    Working knowledge of:
    • Vehicle parts and repair terminology.
    • Equipment and tools used in the repair and maintenance of motor vehicles and heavy-duty equipment.
    • Inventory room organization and inventory management; including inventory movement, proper storage of automotive and equipment parts, stock rotation, and vendor returns.
    • Safe materials and parts handling practices.
    • Basic mathematical computations such as addition and subtraction.
    • Basic office practices, procedures, and terminology.
    • Computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and/or inventory database.
    • Recordkeeping practices.
    • Effective customer service principles and practices.
    Skill and Ability to:
    • Obtain proper parts needed for repair and maintenance of a wide variety of motor vehicles and heavy-duty equipment.
    • Exercise resourcefulness and ingenuity in gathering information from parts manuals, manufacturers, and other sources to determine acceptable substitutes for rare and obsolete parts.
    • Utilize available computer hardware and software in the daily performance of duties and responsibilities.
    • Perform basic mathematical computations.
    • Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
    • Safely operate motor vehicles.
    • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
    • Maintain accurate records both in digital and paper format.
    • Prepare clear and concise reports and other documents.
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
    • Work independently.
    • Demonstrate and maintain a high degree of integrity, accountability, and good judgment.
    • Perform tasks, which require physical strength and agility; lift and move heavy or bulky boxes.


    Examples of Experience/Education/Training

    Any combination of training, education and/or experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities and required conditions of employment listed above is qualifying. An example of a way these requirements might be acquired is:

    Experience: Two (2) years of experience ordering, inventorying, and issuing parts, tools, supplies, and accessories for a wide variety of motor vehicles and heavy-duty equipment.

    REQUIRED CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

    The required conditions of employment include, but are not limited to the following:
    • Possess and maintain a valid California Class C driver’s license or the ability to provide suitable transportation that is approved by the appointing authority.
    • Be available to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and during times of disaster and/or emergency.
