    ABOUT THE POSITION

    The Clark County Information Technology Department is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the S enior Network Analyst position. As a member of our team, you will install, support and configure CISCO network hardware and components, and provide ongoing software and hardware maintenance, including updates and security patches. Additional duties will include monitoring, evaluating, and solving potential hardware performance issues and supporting customers and employees via email, telephone, and face-to-face interaction. This position works within a large-scale enterprise environment requiring knowledge on a variety of technologies, such as CISCO Networking systems, Palo Alto Firewalls, and Server Virtualization.

    This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by Human Resources.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    Education and Experience: Equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in Telecommunications, Information Systems, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or closely related field, plus four (4) years full-time experience in installing and managing multiple protocol networks, including design work and troubleshooting major outages. Professional level experience and/or education that has provided the skills and knowledge necessary to perform all job functions at this level may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

    Working conditions: Work extended shifts, be called back in emergency situations, and/or travel to remote sites located on mountain tops through rugged unpaved roads.

    Licensing and Certification: Specified positions may require valid Nevada Class C driver's license at time of appointment.

    Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Periodically after employment background investigations may be conducted.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

    General Tasks Performed in All Positions

    This senior level position provides a wide range of highly specialized technical functions in the design, installation, and maintenance of the County's wide area network. Duties include:
    • Meeting with county and other governmental agencies to determine requirements for new or upgraded networks.
    • Creates project plans for all network projects. Configures and tests procedures and equipment for network projects.
    • Communicates status of projects to management and customers.
    • Researches and evaluates network equipment, estimates costs, and makes recommendations for vendor selection.
    • Conducts facility inspections to ensure adequate environmental needs and controls for network equipment.
    • Creates and maintains logical, physical and protocol maps, electronic and hard copy backups of all equipment configuration parameters, and network documentation standards and procedures.
    • Coordinates network services, technical and maintenance support with outside service providers.
    • Manages the network using automated systems to identify trouble spots and to remotely view and administer routers, servers, and other network equipment.
    • Fields trouble calls from customers that relate to network problems; travels to other locations to install and/or repair equipment and resolve network problems.
    • Trains and coordinates with technical support staff and help desk staff in network troubleshooting procedures.
    • Provides additional level of support in the area of Novell and NT operating systems.
    • Tracks the assignment of TCP/IP networks and individual addresses using certificate system and domain name database.
    • Performs periodic maintenance on production network equipment and software.
    • Consults with departments and provides technical expertise regarding future network requirements.
    • Projects short- and long-term requirements for the network based on current utilization and trends.
    • Develops strategic plans to leverage emerging network technology to support future county network needs.
    • May drive a motor vehicle or be capable of arranging for appropriate transportation to and from various work sites and to respond to emergencies.

    For Southern Nevada Area Communications Council (SNACC) positions
    • Assist and support the SNACC Administrator in the development and maintenance of the land mobile radio (LMR) communications network and administration associated with SNACC’s 800 MHz Public Safety Radio System. This includes but, is not limited to design and coordination of the installation of LAN/WAN networks operating on various mediums i.e. copper, fiber, microwave, radio waves etc., maintain and manage radio system and allotted frequencies.
    • Design, develop, and implement subscriber unit templates using various vendor software, locally and remotely.
    • Manage and integrate radio system monitoring tools and/or reporting tools.
    • Manage radio subscriber inventory and system infrastructure.
    • Test and align various radio models rated for public safety with the goal of supplying reliable access to the SNACC Public Safety Radio System and providing optimal customer service.


    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    Mobility to travel to various work sites and work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment, stamina to remain seated and maintain concentration for an extended period of time, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Must be capable of working extended shifts and respond to call backs in emergency situations.
