    FACULTY EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

    DEPARTMENT OF SOCIOLOGY

    Part-Time Lecturer Pool Position

    POSITION AVAILABLE: One or more temporary, part-time lecturers for a pool from which instructors will be considered for appointments as they become available for Fall Semester 2026, and/or Spring Semester 2027.

    THE DEPARTMENT: The Sociology Department consists of 8 tenure track faculty, 10 lecture faculty, and has over 600 undergraduate majors from diverse backgrounds. Our program emphasizes social diversity, critical thinking, and social justice.

    DUTIES OF THE POSITION: Lecturers may be needed for one or more of the following courses: Introduction to Sociology, Social Theory, Research Methods Social Psychology, Social Policy, Work and Professions, Sociology of Education, Social Inequality, Environmental Sociology, Sociology of Sport, Medical Sociology, Sociology of Organizations and Sociology of Emotions. Other courses may also be offered. Please note that teaching assignments at California State University, East Bay may include courses at the Hayward campus, Concord Center, and/or online. The policy and expectation of the California State University is that all faculty members will perform all of their duties within the state of California.

    RANK AND SALARY: Lecturer. Salary is dependent upon educational preparation and experience. Position appointment is subject to budgetary authorization.

    The salary schedule information for the Lecturer - Academic Year Classification is available based on the following ranges:

    Lecturer AY (Range 2) - $5,507 - $6,677

    Lecturer AY (Range 3) - $6,221 - $13,224

    Lecturer AY (Range 4) - $6,825 - $14,523

    Lecturer AY (Range 5) - $8,593 - $15,211

    The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience.

    DATE OF APPOINTMENT: Fall Semester begins August 17, 2026; Spring Semester begins January 19, 2027.

    QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum Masters in Sociology or closely related field. ABD; PhD. in Sociology or closely related field preferred; Experience teaching in a multicultural university setting is preferred.

Cal State East Bay will issue a conditional offer of employment to the selected candidate, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Unsatisfactory results may also affect the continued employment of current Cal State East Bay employees who were conditionally offered the position.
