    Compensation and Benefits

    Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $3,853 - $4,009 per month (Internal employees may be placed at a salary higher than the anticipated range as required by the collective bargaining agreement.)

    Full CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,703 - $5,395 per month
    • This is a full-time (equivalent to 40 hours per week), probationary, non-exempt position.
    • Area of consideration is limited to on-campus, state funded employees only.

    The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year.     Job Summary

    Under the general supervision of the Parking Administrator, or a Lieutenant in their absence, the incumbent supports the mission of the University, the Fresno State Police Department, and Traffic Operations.

    Community Service Specialist II (CSS II) employees provide lead direction to Community Service Specialist I, Parking Officer I, and Student Assistant staff. They perform advanced duties including coordinating parking and safety for special events, training staff in safety, crime prevention, and parking operations, and supporting public safety communications and administrative functions. They may also assist in developing operational procedures and protocols in alignment with established policies.

    Typical work assignments may fall within one or more of the following areas:

    Lead Responsibilities - Provide lead direction to Traffic Operations line staff; coordinate Student Assistant schedules; oversee daily SCOUT Program operations; conduct IACLEA-related uniform and equipment inspections; lead daily operational and safety briefings; and ensure quality control of CSS I and Student Assistant work.

    Security Services - Patrol campus property and facilities to protect the campus community and visitors from hazards such as fire, theft, vandalism, trespassing, and other criminal activity; facilitate the opening and securing of campus facilities; and coordinate the testing of emergency systems.

    Public Safety Support - Assist the Fresno State Police Department by participating in emergency response efforts and responding to incidents; direct vehicle and pedestrian traffic during peak periods, special events, and emergencies; coordinate testing of campus safety systems, including pedestrian crosswalks and emergency phones; and evaluate campus lighting conditions, initiating work orders to address non-functioning or deficient lighting.

    Parking Support - Enforce parking rules and regulations by issuing citations and selling permits; patrol parking facilities for violations; assist with collecting and processing parking revenue; support alternative transportation programs; contribute to operational planning for campus events; and ensure parking and transportation equipment is properly maintained, inventoried, and stocked as needed.

    Community Support - Assist with logistics for campus special events and emergencies; provide general information and assistance to the public; facilitate safety escorts; provide transportation accommodations for persons with disabilities; and respond to and resolve customer concerns as appropriate.

    Key Qualifications
    • Working knowledge of applicable university policies and procedures, methods, practices, and terminology used in public safety communications and ability to learn to use applicable public safety related equipment and systems.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to:

      • observe and recall details and incidents.
      • act and resolve parking and traffic problems.

      • learn and understand policies and procedures.
      • understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
      • assist students, staff, faculty, and the general public by providing information as requested.
      • work independently under general supervision.
      • establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, students, and staff from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds.

    Education and Experience
    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • 3-5 years of interdepartmental work experience performing similar duties as outlined in the general assignment.
    • Possession of a valid class “C” California Driver’s License and a demonstrated good driving record. (Any job offers made will be contingent upon proof of good driving records as determined by a check for violations recorded with the Department of Motor Vehicles. As a condition of continued employment, incumbents selected must successfully complete Defensive Driving Courses as prescribed by University regulations related to driving any vehicle on state business.)
    • A work history of regular attendance and positive performance evaluations.
      • Preferred Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities:
        • Knowledge of computer office systems and ability to use a broad range of technology, systems, and software packages (Microsoft Office Suite, Google apps.)
        • Working knowledge and understanding of event operations and coordination principles.


    Department Summary

    The Fresno State Police Department is operational 24 hours a day, year round, to provide assistance and to serve the campus community. We are comprised of two operational areas:

    Patrol Operations is responsible for the department's law enforcement functions.

    Traffic Operations is responsible for the department's parking and traffic management functions.
