Woodbridge is a 20-square-mile town of just over 9,000 residents in New Haven County, Connecticut, known for outstanding schools, protected open space, active trail networks, and a civically engaged population. The Board of Selectmen is hiring an Administrative Officer to serve as the town's Chief Operating Officer, working shoulder-to-shoulder with the First Selectman to modernize operations, deliver major capital projects, and raise the bar on municipal service delivery.

This is a visible, high-impact role in a community where your work is noticed, valued, and genuinely appreciated.

Why this role stands out

  • Big projects, real legacy: Help deliver high visibility initiatives including new school construction, police department renovations, a community center, and long range infrastructure planning.
  • Operational leadership: Coordinate every municipal department to deliver efficient, accountable, customer focused service.
  • HR and labor relations: Lead recruitment, policy, union negotiations, classification and compensation, training, and workforce planning.
  • Risk and compliance: Oversee safety programs, workers compensation, liability claims, and employment and labor compliance.
  • Technology and cybersecurity: Guide IT vendors, systems, governance, and long term modernization strategy.
  • Community partnership: Work inside an informed, engaged town that takes real pride in Woodbridge and expects excellence from its government.

Form of government

Woodbridge operates under a Board of Selectmen and Town Meeting form of government. Five Selectmen are elected at large to two year terms and serve as the legislative branch, setting policy, approving ordinances, and reviewing administrative functions. The First Selectman is elected every two years and serves as Chief Administrative and Chief Elected Officer with full voting rights on the Board. The Board of Selectmen appoints the Administrative Officer, making this the top operational leadership position in town hall.
