    Job DescriptionJob Description

Strategic Support Solutions is seeking a high-precision Aircraft Sheet Metal Mechanic to support government maintenance operations. This role is specifically designed for technicians who excel in the "fine-motor" world of thin-gauge aluminum and general aviation airframes. You will be responsible for the mechanical stripping, corrosion mitigation, and structural modification of panels and surfaces where maintaining tight tolerances and aerodynamic profiles is critical.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Precision Fabrication: Perform modifications and structural repairs on thin-skin aircraft panels and primary structural components.
    • Corrosion Mitigation: Expertly identify, strip, and treat corrosion; prepare both metal and composite surfaces using state-of-the-art materials and methods.
    • Structural Evaluation: Inspect and evaluate structural damage to determine repair paths in accordance with manufacturer manuals and engineering data.
    • Assembly & Integration: Remove and install panels, skins, and airframe components in preparation for surface coating and final assembly.
    • Technical Compliance: Read and strictly follow blueprints, engineering drawings, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
    • Reporting: Maintain meticulous records, including log entries, work orders, and parts requests to meet FAA and government oversight standards.

    Required Skills & Equipment

    • Tool Proficiency: Expert use of pneumatic drill motors, rivet guns, punches, hand sanders, and high-speed grinders.
    • Metrology: Skilled in using protractors, calipers, height/depth gauges, and dial indicators for precision fitment.
    • Tool Control: Must possess a personal tool kit. Note: All tools must be properly shadowed and etched in accordance with the facility's tool control policy.

    Qualifications

    • Experience: 3 years of continuous and recent experience in aircraft sheet metal, with a specific emphasis on thin metal and general aviation airframes.
    • Certifications: FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) license is preferred, but not required for highly experienced specialists.
    • Assessment: Candidates must pass a practical sheet metal test (evaluating drilling, riveting, and layout skills) upon employment.
    • Clearance: Must be able to pass an FBI criminal history records check and verify employment for unescorted access to Security Identification Display Areas (SIDA).

    Physical Requirements

    • Ability to stand, squat, and work with arms overhead for extended periods.
    • Ability to pull, push, and lift up to 50 lbs.
    • Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced government maintenance environment while maintaining a professional attitude under tight timelines.

    Benefits & Compensation

    • Extremely Competitive Salary (Weekly Pay)
    • Shift Differential: An additional $5.00 per hour premium is paid for all hours worked when assigned to the second shift.
    • Paid Time Off: Including Holidays and Sick Time
    • Retirement: 401K Plan
    • Insurance: Employer-paid life insurance
    • Discounts: Access to corporate programs for travel and attractions
