Workdays & Hours: Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. **Subject To Change** DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS This position is critical to the Municipal Courts Department's Central Mail Room operations and is responsible for coordinating daily mail deliveries and pickups from all Court locations and other City Departments, and routing/distributing internal and external mail to the Departments various divisions, receiving/logging all deliveries from external sources, and metering all outgoing mail. This position is responsible for ensuring the overall maintenance of the Department’s assigned vehicles including routine safety inspections, and accurate service and mileage logs. This position will also be assigned specific functions in the Department’s accounts payable process and participates in special projects as assigned.
- Performs manual and clerical tasks in the receiving, storing, redistribution and disposal of surplus City equipment and property.
- Receives, unloads, shelves equipment and inventory as part of the process of moving and loading surplus property.
- Ensure compliance with City and State guidelines regarding acquisition, storage, distribution, maintenance, and disposition of inventory and related records.
- Assist in developing, revising, and implementing procedures for inventory control, material management, safety, security, and basic accounting practices.
- Receive, unload, unpack, shelve, distribute, and deliver incoming parts, tools, materials, supplies, and equipment; assist with moving and loading surplus property as needed.
- Verify incoming inventory for quality, quantity, accuracy, and compliance with purchase orders, invoices, packing slips, and specifications.
- Inventory Management Clerks establish priorities and ensuring accurate recordkeeping.
- Investigate, report, and resolve inventory discrepancies.
- Create and maintain logs, records, and reports of materials received, stored, issued, delivered, or distributed.
- Perform data entry in purchasing and inventory control systems.
- Oversee, coordinate, and participate in physical inventory counts, reconcile results with records, and resolve variances.
- Monitor inventory levels, forecast needs, identify usage trends, and recommend reorder points.
- Coordinate supply requirements with divisions to meet regular and special needs Assists in disposal of damaged or obsolete items or inventory.
WORKING CONDITIONS
General office setting but requires daily driving of City vehicle to offsite locations. May require periodic heavy lifting (up to 30 pounds).
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSKNOWLEDGE: Requires a high school diploma or GED.
EXPERIENCE: Three months of inventory control, materials management, record keeping or clerical experience are required. May require experience in operating a forklift and other motorized or non-motorized materials handling equipment.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:
Valid Texas driver’s license and compliance with the City of Houston Administrative Policy 2-2.
PREFERENCESPreferences shall be given to candidates who have strong organizational and customer service skills, computer proficiency, writing and communication skills, and familiarity with Microsoft Office Programs and SAP.
