Rate of Pay - Range 18/Steps 1-4 $26.93 - $29.43 Monday through Friday 7 AM - 4 PM(No Weekends or Holidays)
About the Position: Performs in an intern capacity, entry level professional work within the Civil Engineer series. Ideal candidate is an individual who is results-oriented, has great attitude, demonstrates creativity and innovation, works efficiently, shows a record of success and has a passion for public service. Candidates will have a strong interest in engineering; be at ease with dealing with the public and handling service comments from residents with tact and diplomacy; be detail-oriented, organized, have good time-management skills within a vibrant work environment and seek answers should none be obvious. Candidates must be flexible, have good verbal and written communication skills, computer skills and work well with others and with minimal supervision.
-> Work will be in an office setting as well as in the field including travel throughout Mohave County using a county-issued vehicle.
-> Requires minimal interaction with the public.
Essential Job Functions- In the department's operation of the County's highway, road, and street network under direction of engineering staff, assists engineers in traffic engineering field investigations for existing conditions and proposed projects; conducts various engineering and warrant studies through manual calculations and engineering software, researches project records, files and plans; prepares/modifies plans using AutoCAD or manual drafting; develops and analyses geographic information systems spatial data; uses Microsoft Office PowerPoint, Excel, Word, or other tools and databases to prepare presentation materials (maps, charts, spreadsheets, etc.); data entry; and places and retrieves engineering data collection equipment.
- Review engineering plans, specifications, estimates, and reports for residential and commercial private developments.
- In the department's design of road improvement projects under direction of Engineering staff, prepares engineering drawings and estimates; prepares and modifies spreadsheets, project displays, and various reports; conducts data research, field investigations, and responds to the public and other agencies.
- In the department's construction of capital improvement projects under the direction of Engineering staff, assist with the construction of projects including but not limited to construction of utilities, electronic traffic control devices, buildings, parks, street, sidewalk, drainage improvements, and other public facilities. Daily activities include spreadsheets, data research, correspondence, field investigations, preparing and distributing reports, responding to citizen and other agencies' inquiries, performing a variety of general office tasks, and working the field assisting construction inspectors and survey crews.
SECONDARY JOB FUNCTIONS- Performs special assignments as appropriate to assigned area.

Minimum Qualifications- Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate civil, construction management, or mechanical engineering curriculum with good standing OR have earned bachelors or graduate degree civil, construction management, or mechanical engineering.
- Must have ample knowledge of computer software such as AutoCAD, ArcGIS, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Must possess a valid driver's license for operation of motor vehicles on Arizona roads at the state of employment and maintain said license while employed in this position.
- Must provide acceptable driving history at no cost to the County.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities- Principals and practices of engineering as applied to design, construction, operation and maintenance of roads, utilities, building facilities, and other public infrastructure.
- Land and construction survey systems and computer operations including computer aided design and drafting.
- Federal and state and local regulations, codes and engineering standards pertaining to the design, construction, and operation of Public Works and other infrastructure projects grounds including but not limited to applicable building codes, fire codes, and ADA standards.
- Construction and maintenance methods, materials and equipment.
- Utilizing computer systems and applications in the performance of work assignments and responsible functions, such as MS Office applications, project management and scheduling applications, and engineering/architectural analysis, evaluation, and drawing applications.
- Principles of customer service and public relations and effective office and public communications both orally and in writing.
- Understand, interpret and apply pertinent federal, state, county, city, and departmental laws, rules, regulations, codes, standards, policies, and procedures encountered in the performance of assignments.
- Apply independent judgement in the analysis of assigned engineering projects and formulate and write recommendations, plans and specifications.
- Compile technical data and calculations and convert them to plans.
- Estimate construction and material costs.
- Plan and organize work to meet daily and periodic objectives.
- Read, interpret, explain, and apply technical materials encountered as a result of work assignments.
- Work independently in completing assigned tasks and in maintaining records and other documentation accurately and legibly.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with department staff, vendors, and personnel contacted in the course of business.
