The
Assessor's Office has the responsibility to locate all taxable property in the County and to identify ownership. This office establishes value for all taxable property and applies all legal exemptions to the property.
The Assessor's Office seeks a
Senior Map Drafting Technician to prepare and maintain maps used for property assessment purposes. The Senior Map Drafting Technician works with outside agencies relative to requests for Assessor's information; is the lead worker/complex level in the Map Drafting Technician and is responsible for training, assigning and reviewing work of subordinate staff. Additionally, the incumbent is responsible for performing the more technical and difficult drafting assignments.
The Eligible List established by this recruitment process may be used to fill current and future vacancies on a regular full-time, part-time, or temporary basis.
This classification is part of a flexible series. Incumbents appointed at the lower level of the career series may be promoted up to the higher level of the career series subject to their meeting the employment standards for the higher class and a recommendation for their promotion by the appointing authority.

Examples of DutiesWorks with outside agencies and special districts in conjunction with requests on assessment map matters; coordinates map and drafting procedures and processing of work between various departments.Delineates changes in tax rate area boundaries; writes legal descriptions of tax delinquent property describing property boundary in relation to adjacent properties to get proper bearing and distances.Personally makes and assists in the more difficult and complex drafting assignments.Trains, assigns and reviews the work of subordinate Map Drafting Technicians responsible for the preparation and maintenance of a variety of maps.Reviews and makes recommendations regarding individual work performance of assigned staff; recommends disciplinary action.Incorporates into the assessment map series the effects of changes in the assessment laws and standards of other policy directives.Meets with the public to explain property locations, boundaries, and the standard assessment map and parcel system.

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATEWill have a proven track record demonstrating the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
Thorough knowledge of :- Terminology, principles, techniques, and equipment used in map drafting
- Property descriptions
- Legal requirements pertaining to the preparation and maintenance of assessor maps.
Working Knowledge of:Skill and Ability to:- Plan, organize, coordinate and review the work of subordinate staff.
- Perform complex and precise mapping and drafting work.
- Read and interpret land descriptions and survey records.
- Follow oral, written and diagrammatic directions.
- Perform basic mathematics and geometric calculations.
- Organize and maintain reference files.
- Organize facts and information in order to draw logical conclusions.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Examples of Experience/Education/TrainingAny combination of training, education and/or experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities and required conditions of employment is qualifying. An example of a way these requirements might be acquired is:
Three years of experience in a class equivalent to Map Drafting Technician in the County of Monterey.
Additional InformationCONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Possess a valid California Class C driver license at the time of appointment and possess and maintain a satisfactory driving record or provide evidence of suitable transportation which is approved by the appointing authority.Prospective employees for the Assessor-County Clerk/Recorder will be required to submit to a background review which may include a review of information concerning present and/or prior employment, driving record, and record of criminal conviction.Be available to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and during times of disaster and/or emergency; travel out of County to attend meetings.
