DescriptionVacancy is in the Department of Public Works. Under supervision to assist in the maintenance of municipal property by performing a variety of skilled painting tasks and various routine maintenance duties. Applies paint and other finishes to a variety of interior and exterior surfaces with a roller, brush, spray equipment and heat applicator; mixes paints, match colors, and prepares surfaces through sanding, scraping, washing or burning; fabricates stencils, silk screens, and hand letters various signs; in the Sign Shop, installs parking meters pipes, erects traffic signs, stripes street, crosswalks and curbs, and places temporary signs; in building maintenance, patches plaster, replaces broken glass window panes, stripes sports courts and swimming pools, hangs wallpaper, and erects scaffolding and rigging; performs preventive maintenance upon assigned equipment and performs a variety of routine maintenance tasks in the other building trades; occasionally serves in a lead capacity in the above tasks.

This is a 1716 union position. The hours of this position are 40 a week. Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesThe examination will consist of an evaluation of training and experience as indicated on the application. All parts of the examination, including ratings and tests will be related to the requirements and duties of the position. The examination is designed to measure:
Knowledge of: - Modern methods, tools and techniques of the painting trade.
- Methods of preparing a variety of surfaces for paint.
- Occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
Ability to: - Perform arduous work at heights.
- Properly use and care for the hand and power tools of the trade.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks in the other building trades.
Qualifications Open to all qualified applicants who meet the following qualifications: Two year's experience as a journeyman painter.
If selected, you will be required to pass a physical examination administered by a City physician, a drug and alcohol screening, and a background check. If appointed, you will serve 3-12 months of probation. This examination and employment process is subject to all federal, state, and municipal laws, rules and regulations.
