Responsibilities

What you'll do
- Install, replace, repair, and maintain water distribution mains and lines, valves, and hydrants.
- Repair leaks and breaks in existing pressurized mains.
- Restore work site locations and street surfaces.
- Perform backfill of excavations; restore dirt work; seed or sod areas; set up erosion control measures; and tear down, replace, and restore fencing.
- Replace landscaping using proper techniques to minimize damage to existing utilities.
- Assist in digging trenches and other excavations, including shoring deep excavations.
- Follow all City policies concerning workplace safety.
- Operate various types of motorized construction and maintenance equipment.
- Operate a jackhammer to cut and break concrete, asphalt, or rock.
- Remove waste from work sites and drive a dump truck to haul construction materials.
- Operate a front-end loader up to 2½ cubic yards to load pipe and other materials for construction and maintenance work.

Qualifications
REQUIRES 4 years of utility maintenance and repair experience. Must possess a valid State-issued driver's license in accordance with the City of KCMO policies. Must possess a valid CDL (Commercial Driver's License) issued by the State of Missouri prior to the end of the employee's probationary period (Appropriate CDL will be determined by the department). Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and post-offer physical examination as prescribed by the City. Must possess at least one of the certifications listed that is applicable to the employee's work area within 6 months of moving into this job classification: Distribution System Level I (DS-I) License with the State of Missouri; Wastewater Collections System level C certification with the State of Missouri; Backflow certification with the State of Missouri.
Preference given to applicants with experience in making repairs to a water distribution system. Other Information
