    Definition & Distinguishing Characteristics

    Join the County of Colusa as a Bilingual Medical Clerk I/II and play a vital role in supporting the community’s behavioral health services. In this dynamic position, you will serve as one of the first points of contact for clients by scheduling appointments, guiding individuals to appropriate resources, maintaining confidential medical records, and assisting with important administrative functions. This opportunity is ideal for someone compassionate, detail-oriented, and committed to providing exceptional customer service while helping improve access to quality care for residents throughout Colusa County.     There is one position available that can be filled at any level, depending on the qualifications of the successful applicant. This recruitment will be used to fill a current vacancy and establish an eligibility list to fill other openings without reposting.



    Selection Procedure
    The following is a tentative schedule of events that will occur as part of the selection process:
    • Applications will be accepted from 5/20/2026 through 5/31/2026 .
    • Screening for minimum qualifications.

    • The Clerical exams will be on Wednesday, June 3rd .
    • Bilingual Exams. This position requires the ability to speak, read, and write Spanish in addition to English. Applicants will be required to pass a proficiency exam.
    • Interviews.

    Supervision & Examples of Duties

    Medical Clerk I

    Receives general supervision from supervisory or management staff.

    Medical Clerk II

    Receives general supervision from supervisory or management staff.

    May exercise functional and technical supervision over lower-level clerk staff.

    Qualifications

    Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

    Medical Clerk I

    Experience:

    One year of clerical/administrative experience involving public contact.

    Training:

    Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.

    Medical Clerk II

    Two years of responsible clerical/administrative experience involving public contact, including one year in a medical or clinical setting.

    Training:

    Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.

    Supplemental Information

    The salary range above consists of 15 steps. Steps 1-6 are annual merit steps with approximately 5% difference between each step, based on successful performance. Steps 7-15 are additional merit steps, requiring 2 years of satisfactory performance at the previous step. Steps 7-14 provide 2.5% increases, while Step 15 offers a 5% increase. The final salary offered will depend on the applicant's experience and qualifications, ranging from steps 1 to 15.

    The County of Colusa, nestled in the heart of the Sacramento Valley approximately 60 miles north of Sacramento and 100 miles northeast of the San Francisco Bay Area, is a vibrant community rich in history and tradition and, offering a wonderful environment in which to live, work and play.  The County, with approximately 22,000 residents, includes two incorporated cities; Colusa, which is the county seat, and Williams.  The local economy is largely agriculturally based producing crops valued at more than $900 million each year and exporting farm commodities throughout the United States and to about seventy countries worldwide. 

    County government business is still conducted within the antebellum court house which was built in 1861 and has operated continuously ever since.
