Primary Hours: 8am-5pm
Position Description: This position serves as a violence prevention project coordinator within the Injury Prevention Service and is responsible for advancing the implementation of effective and sustainable prevention strategies in support of violence prevention. The position is responsible for capacity building, collaboration with state and community stakeholders across multiple sectors, consultation, technical assistance, program development and evaluation, information dissemination, and implementation of evidence-based prevention strategies.
Position Responsibilities /Essential Functions- Research, design, implement, coordinate, and evaluate activities to reduce suicide and violence-related morbidity and mortality that are aligned with the best available evidence.
- Support the implementation and sustainability of multiple programs and prevention strategies and provide technical assistance and consultation to partners.
- Identify and engage internal and external stakeholders; establish and maintain strong partnerships with public, private, tribal, and nonprofit organizations; and collaborate with partners to leverage resources for advancing statewide violence prevention efforts.
- Address shared risk and protective factors in the approaches utilized for violence prevention.
- Develop and facilitate multi-disciplinary coalitions, workgroups, and committees as needed.
- Develop and deliver presentations and trainings on violence prevention for public and professional audiences and conduct media interviews.
- Provide subject matter expertise to partners and the public on violence prevention.
- Prepare written materials and resources for professional and lay audiences.
- Review, utilize, and disseminate available data to inform program development and prevention approaches.
- Represent the Injury Prevention Service on various committees and provide progress reports, technical assistance, data, and information to the groups.
- Being present in the office is an essential function of this position.

Education and ExperienceRequirements consist of a master’s degree in public health, public administration, sociology, psychology, wellness management, community health, or a closely related field and two years of experience in a field involving project planning and management or health education/promotion OR an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one year of qualifying experience for each year of the required education.
Preferred qualifications include:
- At least one year of work experience in injury prevention or conducting a community-based primary prevention program.
Valued Knowledge, skills and abilitiesKnowledge of public health problems, principles, and practices; of theoretical concepts of health behavior; of current social and economic problems as they relate to public health; of group organization and leadership; of community infrastructure development; and of basic research and statistical techniques is required. Exceptional interpersonal, planning, and project management skills are required in order to effectively and efficiently develop, conduct, and evaluate trainings, meetings, presentations, and programs. Ability is required to speak to the public; to organize communities, establish and facilitate coalitions, and direct groups; to prepare a variety of educational materials and other written documents; to work effectively with diverse populations; and to exercise good judgment in analyzing situations and making decisions. Additional requirements include strong critical thinking, time management, and conflict management skills; the ability to translate plans into action; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships; and self-motivation and drive to achieve established goals and objectives.
Physical Demands and Work EnvironmentWork is typically performed in an office setting with climate-controlled settings and exposure to moderate noise level, but also includes various public/community establishments used for training classes, presentations, meetings, and other required duties. While performing the duties of the job, employee is required to stand, talk, walk, lift, and reach with hands and arms. This position requires long periods of sitting and standing and daily use of a computer and phone. Applicants must be willing to perform all job-related travel associated with this position. Being present in the office is an essential function of this position.
