    BRIEF DESCRIPTION:The purpose of this position is to design, fabricate, install and maintain traffic signs, signals and emergency warning systems. This is accomplished by designing signs and signals, reviewing plans and specifications, installing signs, lights and poles, repairing defective equipment and materials, repairing and replacing lights, electrical devices, and completing preventive maintenance. Other duties include providing traffic control for special events, coordinating activities with other departments, and maintaining inventories.LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:Driver's License Required - Y Type - Class B Commercial Driver's LicenseEndorsements - N/AIndividuals who do not currently have a Class B Commercial Driver's License will be given until one (1) business day prior to the end of their probation to meet this requirement as a condition of employment.OTHER REQUIREMENTS:Traffic Technicians will work with 480 high voltage electricity.Must be willing to learn to safely operate a minimum GVW 26,000 lb. bucket truck and safely operate the bucket at heights up to 60 feet.Work schedules may change depending on weather conditions and catastrophic events.Must be willing to provide on-call service for a seven-day period, inclusive of nights and weekend, approximately every 11 weeks.Must use proper Personal Protective Equipment while performing job duties.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Note: This information is intended to be descriptive of the key responsibilities of the position. Schedules may be subject to change with or without advance notice.2 M Constructs signs and other materials by designing and studying plans and drawings, entering information into design programs, creating designs, cutting and preparing materials, and fabricating and cleaning finished products.3 H Installs and maintains signs and signalized intersections by installing, removing and inspecting signalization, troubleshooting problems, installing and repairing equipment, installing new electrical equipment and boxes, painting, removing obstructions, and entering and recording information into databases.4 H Works with special events by coordinating signalization, placing special signs and markers in pre-determined locations, barricading streets, assisting with traffic control, and completing related tasks.5 H Marks streets by measuring and marking for paint, laying out markings, setting up, measuring and painting, and installing traffic buttons.6 M Completes related electrical work by installing and troubleshooting related electrical devices.7 H Receives and maintains inventory by loading and unloading equipment and materials, storing materials and equipment, entering information into databases, and maintaining sign and signal repair and maintenance records.JOB CLASSIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:* Description of Minimum Job Requirements-Formal Education Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature that may be obtained with six months/one year of advanced study or training past the high school equivalency.
