The City of Roanoke is seeking a Crime Analyst to research, analyze, and prepare crime data, statistics, and reports. Job responsibilities include but are not limited to locating, compiling, and analyzing information, statistics, and other crime data from computer databasesto identify patterns of crime, assist with identifying or targeting suspects, and patrolling of problem areas. The successful applicant will collect and analyze statistical information using surveys and recognized quantitative and qualitative analytical techniques and review, analyze, and disseminate crime reports. They will also create and maintain computer databases, spreadsheets, and graphical displays using appropriate software. Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university with major in statistics, business administration, public administration, geography, criminal justice or related field; one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of SQL and GIS preferred. Must be in possession of a valid appropriate driver's permit issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand and sit. The employee is occasionally required to walk. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
