    Line 2 Ball Fire Expander

    The Ball Fire Expansion Operator performs manual, water-driven tube expansion using steel balls that are hydraulically pushed through copper tubes. This push-expansion process requires careful ball selection, proper gun setup, and precise measurement to ensure correct tube expansion and coil integrity. This role is hands-on and physically active, requiring strong mechanical awareness and attention to detail.

    1. Safety & Equipment Care
    • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
    • Safely operate water pressure systems and expansion equipment.
    • Care for tools and expansion guns; notify maintenance of issues.
    Ball Fire Expansion Process
    • Select the correct steel ball sizes based on engineering specifications.
    • Sort expansion balls using trays or micrometers to ensure proper sizing.
    • Set up and operate ball fire expansion guns with appropriate teeth and settings.
    • Perform push-style expansion by using water pressure to drive balls through tubes.
    • Enter and exit coil units as required during expansion setup and execution.
    • Blow pressure from expanded units, typically between 200–250 PSI, per specifications.
    Quality Assurance
    • Read and interpret drawings, instructions, and bills of material.
    • Measure components accurately using micrometers and tape measures.
    • Inspect expanded coils to ensure proper expansion and product quality.
    • Complete required paperwork for each expanded unit.

    Administrative & Compliance

    • Accurately log labor time in the time and attendance system.
    • Follow all company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
    • Work overtime as necessary to meet production needs.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by supervision.

    Desired Qualifications

    Education & Experience

    • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
    • Ability to follow detailed work instructions.

    Skills

    • Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort with hands-on processes.
    • Ability to sort and measure components precisely.
    • Basic math and measurement skills (down to 1/16 of an inch).
    • Physical stamina and attention to safety.
    • Effective communication and teamwork skills.

    Training

    • On-site Ball Fire expansion training provided.

    Interaction with Others: Reports to the Final Assembly Supervisor. Works collaboratively with team members and leads. Must be able to receive instructions clearly and contribute to a cooperative work environment.

    Working Environment: Industrial production environment with exposure to water pressure systems, moving equipment, noise, and seasonal temperature changes. Physical demands and production schedules may vary.
