Fire Service Helper
The Fire Service Helper is an opportunity to gain experience in a skilled trade while working with experienced fire safety/life safety technicians. You will learn how to comply with local and state requirements for testing, inspecting, servicing, repairing, and installing various fire/life protection equipment and systems through on-the-job, online and classroom experiences.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None
Essential Job Functions:
- Assist experienced fire technicians on various jobs with the intent of gaining hands-on experience that leads to working independently in a focused area of fire protection with the potential of obtaining industry specific licensing and certifications.
- Read and learn applicable NFPA codes/standards required to obtain licensing and certifications to perform work independently.
- Willingness to work on call (nights, weekends, and/or holidays) when needed.
- Adhere to safety guidelines and practices, both for personal safety and the safety of others.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Experience & Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Desire and ability to learn tactful skills allowing promotion to a specialized technician role.
- Demonstrated critical thinking skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to successfully interact with customers and team members at all levels.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize initiatives and business goals.
- Must possess the knowledge and ability to understand and operate basic computer functions, operating systems, and software applications to complete work.
- Maintain a valid driver's license and ability to pass a drug and background check.
Physical Requirements:
- Regularly required to stand, walk, talk, hear and have full use of hands. The employee is occasionally required to sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to climb/work on a ladder, and in some cases, high lift equipment.
- Must be able to safely operate a motor vehicle and travel daily.
