    The Role at a Glance

    The EMS Wage Instructor is responsible for assisting EMS Education Programs lead instructors with didactic, psychomotor, and affective instruction and evaluations for all basic and advanced initial EMS Education and continuing courses to include psychomotor instruction for the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Education training program. Utilizes adult learning theories and learning styles to maximize learner success and ensure overall effectiveness of all TEEX/ESTI initial EMS education courses. Responsible for assisting the EMS Lead instructors in collecting necessary reports and information for CoAEMSP accreditation, NREMT and Texas Department of Health and Human Services EMS credentialing requirements.

    The EMS Wage Instructor reports directly to the EMS Training Director.

    Qualifications of the Role
    • Associate’s degree in EMS or other related field from an accredited college or university, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Five years of emergency or seven years of non-emergency field experience as a paramedic or EMT Basic and/or five years of initial EMS education instruction with a Texas Department of Health and Human Services or CoAEMSP accredited EMS education program.
    • Two years of adult education and/or training.
    • Must have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
    • Certificate/Instructor Certification - Current or able to obtain within 90 days of employment AHA BLS, ACLS, and PALS. (The EMS Program has the ability to provide AHA initial and instructor certifications).
    • Must have current and maintain National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) Paramedic or Texas Department of Health and Human Services (TDSHS -EMS) Paramedic certification.


    Equivalency: Will consider a Bachelor’s degree in EMS or other related field from an accredited college or university with three years of emergency or five years of non-emergency field experience as a paramedic or EMT Basic and/or three years of initial EMS education instruction with a Texas Department of Health and Human Services or CoAEMSP accredited EMS education program. Experience must include two years of adult education and/or training.

    OR

    A High School Diploma/GED with seven years of emergency or nine years of non-emergency field experience as a paramedic or EMT Basic and/or seven years initial EMS education instruction with a Texas Department of Health and Human Services or CoAEMSP accredited EMS education program. Experience must include two years of adult education and/or training.
