Position OverviewWWT is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer / Automation SME to provide IT engineering and technical support for satellite communications (SATCOM) systems supporting Department of Defense mission requirements. The role supports the design, development, integration, testing and sustainment of SATCOM capabilities while enabling automated testing and validation within lab environments. The engineer will also support lab‑based replication of operational environments and provide automation capabilities to accelerate evaluation and integration of SATCOM technologies supporting the Defense Information Systems Network (DISN).ResponsibilitiesLead, manage, and support engineering and technical activities for SATCOM networking and IT systems supporting tactical and strategic users.Support the design, development, integration, testing, and sustainment of SATCOM capabilities across the systems engineering lifecycle.Develop and maintain SATCOM IT engineering documentation, including systems engineering plans, engineering change requests, lifecycle sustainment plans, and system architecture documentation.Develop and maintain modular baseline test documentation supporting lab testing and system validation.Design and implement automated test scripts and automation frameworks for repeatable testing and system validation.Utilize orchestration and scheduling tools to automate test execution and lab workflows.Conduct multi‑vendor product testing and evaluation to support comparative product analyses and inform procurement or acquisition recommendations.Provide rapid prototyping, proof‑of‑concept (PoC), and interoperability testing to assess proposed multi‑vendor solution architectures.Perform system installation and operational integration at SATCOM gateway environments worldwide as required.Provide Tier III engineering support and maintain lab environments that enable secure remote access for testing and troubleshooting.Evaluate vendor software and operating system releases, including cybersecurity vulnerability assessments and mitigation planning.Replicate and maintain satellite gateway systems or subsystems within a lab environment to support testing, troubleshooting, and engineering validation.Collaborate with cross‑functional engineering teams to integrate SATCOM capabilities ensuring reliable, secure, and efficient transmission of data, voice, and video across the Defense Information Systems Network (DISN).Qualifications5 years of experience in a relevant IT engineering or SATCOM engineering mission area.Experience developing and maintaining modular and documented baseline test documentation.Experience developing test automation scripts.Experience utilizing orchestration and scheduling tools.Experience with multi‑vendor product testing and evaluation.Experience with at least one of the following:Rapid prototypingProofofConcept (PoC) developmentInteroperability testingExperience providing secure remote access capabilities into virtual lab environments for testing and troubleshooting.Knowledge of operational integration of SATCOM capabilities.Experience replicating and maintaining systems or subsystems within a lab environment.Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.Top Secret Clearance Required.Preferred LocationFort Meade, MDCompensationBase salary range: $100,000.00 to $120,000.00 annually. Actual salary will be based on factors including shift, location, experience, skill set, performance, licensure and certification, and business needs.
