Reporting directly to a Sergeant, responsible for the enforcement of state laws; preservation of public order; protection of life; and the prevention, detection, and investigation of crime under the jurisdiction of Williamson County.PatrolProvides service, information, and aid to citizens as circumstances requirePrevents crime and suppresses disturbancesInvestigates criminal offenses and detains, restrains, and makes arrests, when necessaryWorks with and addresses community groups to foster good relations with the publicResponds to emergency calls and non-emergency complaintsEnforces traffic laws and investigates vehicle collisionsRecovers lost or stolen propertyAttempts to locate missing personsPatrols property by means of vehicle or on footSpecializes in the enforcement of specific Texas Codes, as requiredTestifies as a witness in civil and criminal court proceedings, when necessaryMay serve court processes, collect evidence, and guard or transport inmatesMaintains knowledge of technical and operating principals, practices, and problems of law enforcement and crime prevention activitiesMaintains general knowledge of the Texas Penal Code, Texas Transportation Code, Code of Criminal Procedures, Family Code, Texas Education Code, Health and Safety Code, Agriculture Code of Texas, etc, with specific knowledge of code directly related to unit for which the deputy is assignedPossesses knowledge of the use and care of vehicles, firearms and specialized equipmentMaintains level of physical fitness necessary to perform the duties of a peace officerMaintains Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) licensing requirements such as firearms qualifications, continued education, etc.Performs special duties as assignedOrganization RelationshipsReports directly to – SergeantDirect Reports – NoPhysical DemandsPosition involves safely operating a motor vehicle and mobile radio equipment under normal and emergency conditions without any equipment modifications specific to any individual operatorPosition involves driving and sitting for long periods of timePosition involves pursuing violators on foot over rough terrain and obstaclesPosition involves physically subduing and restraining aggressive violatorsPosition involves discharging a firearm with either handPosition involves hearing audible sounds and speaking in a clear, understandable voicePosition may involve working day and/or overnight shiftsPosition involves dragging a minimum of 165 pounds (training/recruitment mannequin) in a manner consistent with rescue and restrain maneuversEnvironmental FactorsMay be required to perform some work outdoors in inclement weather (heat, cold, wet conditions)Job may involve danger due to contact with criminals and suspectsIrregular HoursWork outside of the normal office hours (Monday – Friday) may be requiredMay be deemed essential personnel in the event of an emergencyRegular attendance is requiredThe above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this job.
