    Agency Adult Correction Division COO - OPS - Institutions Operations Job Classification Title: Correctional Officer I (S) Position Number: 60057468 Grade: CR05.Overview The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the state's largest agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It safeguards and preserves lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation, and provides care, custody, and supervision for adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws.Responsibilities The canine handler responds to emergencies and searches for escaped offenders.The handler is responsible for training and utilizing all canines.The handler maintains the well-being of canines, including cleanliness of canines and kennels.The handler performs daily care and feeding of the canines, ensures appropriate medical care, and maintains a record of medical history.The handler maintains proper care and maintenance of an assigned vehicle and equipment.The handler must participate in annual in‑service training and any specialized training required for handler/canine certification.The handler may coordinate and work with special teams and their missions.Qualifications High School or GED diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.Preferred: Previous K9 handling experience (not required).Compensation and Benefits Salary Grade Range: $37,621.00 – $48,953.00.Comprehensive benefits including health insurance, retirement plans, NCFlex program, paid vacation, sick leave, community service leave, and paid parental leave.EEO Statement The State of North Carolina is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer and is dedicated to providing employees with a work environment free from unlawful discrimination, harassment, or retaliation.
