Job Title

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for collecting, organizing, and analyzing information from within the Police Department's information systems, patrol and investigative divisions, and external sources in order to produce analytic products, reports, applications, and other resources to assist the department in providing effective and efficient public safety services and enforce the law. Reports to the Commander/Criminal Intelligence Division.

Essential Functions

  • Extracts data from the department's records management system via custom SQL queries; transforms and normalizes the data using various statistical methods to produce accurate and timely information regarding crime events, trends, offenders, and other public safety issues.
  • Designs, deploys, and maintains interactive data-driven applications such as maps, dashboards, tables, and data collection tools for department-wide use by officers, investigators, and supervisors.
  • Reviews and analyzes police reports and calls for service on a daily basis to evaluate crime events and identify potential series, trends, suspects, and patterns; and to disseminate relevant information to the patrol and communications divisions for follow up on an as needed basis.
  • Utilizes numerous law enforcement restricted access platforms to perform investigative inquiries into individuals, locations, businesses, and assets in support of criminal investigations; assists in locating missing or wanted subjects, provides thorough background checks for employment purposes, and any other capacity as requested.
  • Navigates and utilizes online platforms in an open source intelligence capacity to search social media, forums, and websites both on clearnet and on the "dark" web to identify victims, suspects, and relevant information in support of active investigations.
  • Prepares crime trend reports and studies, including offender bulletins, crime series bulletins, and crime pattern bulletins.
  • Works within ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, Microsoft Excel, and PowerPoint to analyze, organize, and interpret call detail records obtained from cellular providers; the same platforms are then used to create time-aware animated maps and applications displaying travel patterns for cellular phones belonging to suspects and victims.
  • Analyzes audio and video data obtained during investigations and perform various operations to extract information to identify victims and suspects in support of active investigations.
  • Designs and prepares graphics, videos, and presentations for meetings, public outreach, social media, investigative purposes, and courtroom testimony.
  • Liaises with other law enforcement intelligence units at local, county, state, and federal agencies, corporate intelligence divisions, and with academic institutions to share information and keep abreast of potential threats, crime trends, and the latest techniques and tools in intelligence collections, analysis, and dissemination.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

Associate's Degree and two (2) years of experience in a job related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Special Qualifications Certification through the International Association of Crime Analysts (IACA), National White Collar Crime Center (NW3C), or other recognized professional organizations for crime analysts is preferred.

Successful applicants must have a valid driver's license, must pass a psychological examination, drug test, a full driving and criminal background check, and a polygraph examination.
