Employees are tasked with the operation of a safe, secure, and humane correctional facility through the principles of direct supervision.Statement of ResponsibilitiesShall be responsible for the care and custody of inmates detained at the Norfolk County Sheriff's Office and Correctional Center or related programsShall supervise inmates work details within the correctional center facility, ensuring that areas of responsibility are maintained in a clean, secure, and sanitary mannerShall conduct searches of inmates and areas within the facility for contraband in accordance with Sheriff's Office policy and proceduresShall ensure and enforce that the inmate population adhere to the regulations. Correctional Center's rules andShall prepare inmate disciplinary, informational and other significant reports as required by the Facility Shift CommanderShall transport prisoners to courts, hospitals or other institutions while securing their safety and secure custodyShall adhere to proper key control proceduresShall conduct accurate inmate head counts in accordance with Sheriff's Office policy and proceduresShall be responsible for making recommendations to the classification board on each inmate assigned to his/her housing unitShall make recommendations to superiors regarding Sheriff's Office policy and procedure changes in accordance with the chain of commandShall be required to maintain and properly document all facility logbooksShall conduct daily cell inspections to prevent contraband, security and sanitary violationsShall be familiar with and ensure compliance with all emergency contingency plans: body alarm, escape, disorder, medical and fire emergency evacuation proceduresShall assist and perform all other duties as assigned by the Facility Shift CommanderThe Sheriff of Norfolk County reserves the right to add or delete from these responsibilitiesMinimum CriteriaMinimum age 21High School Diploma or equivalentHonorable Discharge from the Armed Services (when applicable)Valid Driver's LicensePass a drug and psychological screeningPass a general and criminal background checkPass a written examPass a physical fitness testDemonstrate verbal, written and computer skills sufficient to effectively communicateProvide approved licensures (when applicable)Authorized to work in the United StatesJob Type: Full-timeSalary$72,622.10 - $87,445.46 per yearBenefitsHealth/Dental/Vision/Life InsuranceUnion MembershipTuition RemissionMassachusetts State Retirement PlanDeferred Compensation PlanVacation/Personal/Sick BenefitsPaid Holidays/CompStipends for Longevity, Cleaning & Clothing, EMT Certificate Education, and FitnessShift BiddingThe Norfolk Sheriff's Office is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
