Security Officer
The Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure work environment free of hazards for Covenant HealthCare patients, guests, partners, buildings and grounds. Security Officer demonstrates excellent customer service performance in that his/her attitudeand actions are at all times consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission and Values of Covenant HealthCare and the commitment to Extraordinary Care for Every Generation.
Responsibilities
- Assures the physical safety of patients, guests and partners on the premises according to established safety guidelines.
- Monitors and assists with safety and security programs adherent regulatory requirements (Fire drills, Safety and Hazard Inspections, Fire Extinguisher inspections, Emergency Preparedness exercises, Panic alarm inspections) as assigned.
- Investigate incidents involving security of the facilities using good oral, written and observation skills.
- Provide motorists with assistance following established guidelines.
- Handle unruly customers from a variety of backgrounds and personalities with positive outcomes utilizing PPCT and CPI.
- Transport patients, visitors, employees and Covenant HealthCare property.
- Assures proper admittance and release of deceased bodies.
- Treat every individual based on his or her age specific needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
High School diploma or equivalent required. Associates degree in law enforcement, criminal justice or security preferred.
One (1) year demonstrated experience in security, loss prevention or military service preferred.
Must successfully complete Field Training Officer Training Program SD-112, within six (6) months upon hire or transfer.
Valid Michigan Drivers license and driving record that allows Covenant HealthCares auto insurance carrier to provide insurance coverage required.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Basic computer knowledge/skills.
- Excellent written and verbal skills
- Work independently with minimal supervision.
- Follow direction and prioritize work assignments.
- Must participate in competency-based interview process/training program (beyond the required 40-hour training for all new officers).
- Yearly successful evaluation, on skills and abilities to intervene in difficult situations and arrive at win-win solutions.
- Complete annual certification training in Safe Drive, OC/Pepper Spray, Violent Patient Management, Defensive Tactics and Crisis Prevention Intervention.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
- Constant hearing and visual accommodation.
- Frequent standing, walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, squatting, crawling, twisting, reaching, handling, feeling, talking.
- Occasional lifting up to 100 lbs.
