Position DetailsTitle: Correctional Classification Assistant (260000C2)Grade: 11GDepartment: City Justice CenterJob Type: Full-Time (Permanent)Examination Number: EX1668Location: Downtown - St. Louis, MOResponsibilitiesReview and examine databases for detainees' contact with the criminal justice system.Determine detainee security level placement based on established guidelines and assign detainees to appropriate housing unit.Monitor and document detainees' adjustments to confinements and screen detainees for needed medical and mental health services, well-being concerns and other needs, and refer as appropriate.Screen detainees to determine eligibility for optional services and programs.Complete daily transfer sheets and distribute them to appropriate personnel.Review, interpret, and verify authenticity of various legal documents relating to the commitment, transfer of custody, and release of detainees.Review detainees' file material and extract data to provide statistical information about inmate population.Maintain logs pertinent to all accountable mail services and special mail.Communicate with other law enforcement entities.Perform other duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesData Utilization: Perform basic level of data analysis; review, classify, categorize, prioritize and reference data, statutes and guidelines to identify relationships.Human Interaction: Explain, demonstrate and clarify information to others within established policies, following instructions and responding to simple requests.Equipment, Machinery, Tools and Materials Use: Operate and monitor equipment such as computer terminals used for essential functions.Verbal Aptitude: Use a wide variety of reference and descriptive data and information such as detainee records, social service files, custody assessment guidelines, computer data printouts, transfer sheets, segregation logs, classification manuals, policy/procedure manuals, and regulations.Mathematical Aptitude: Perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division; calculate percentages and decimals.Functional Reasoning: Apply principles of rational systems; interpret instructions and exercise independent judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards.Situational Reasoning: Exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in evaluating information against sensory, judgmental and/or subjective criteria.Environmental Factors: Tasks may risk exposure to adverse environmental conditions, including irate individuals, intimidation, violence, disease, or pathogenic substances.Physical Requirements: Lift files and papers up to twenty pounds; stand for prolonged periods and sustain visual concentration.Sensory Requirements: Recognize and identify individual characteristics of shapes, sounds and odors related to job tasks; detect irregularities by smell.QualificationsAssociate's degree in Public or Business Administration, Criminal Justice, or related field; OR two years of administrative support experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Preferences: Previous work experience in a correctional setting.Additional InformationScoring Components: Experience and Training: 100%May be Subject to: Background Investigation (Pass/Fail); Medical Examination (Pass/Fail)Documentation of Academic Credentials must be Submitted Upon Request.Veterans Preference: Eligibility requires DD 214 certificate or alternate documentation.City Residence Preference: City residents who pass the examination and do not receive other preference receive a five-point advantage; city residents may receive an additional point if they also receive other preference.
