Correctional Officer
Job Responsibilities
Disseminating information to supervisory staff to enhance institutional/agency intelligence.
Surveillance of potential threat areas.
Interview and verify photographs have been taken of all new arrivals.
Complete paperwork/packets on inmates who are suspected to be involved in gang activity or want to renounce.
Assist contraband staff in searching cells of suspected gang members.
Monitor inmate phone calls.
Maintain accurate records of all confiscated items such as written material containing code and symbols.
Supervise assigned subordinates to ensure full monitoring of individuals of concern, and adherence to established policy and procedure.
Gather STG related evidence and intelligence.
Assist in monitoring STG populations within institutions.
Assist with any duties as assigned by the Statewide STG Coordinator, Assistant Statewide Coordinator, or STG Analyst.
Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:
A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor's degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.
SCDC Minimum Requirements:
A high school diploma and eighteen (18) months experience in correctional, security, military, or police work.
A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for 1/2 of required experience.
Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
