The Police Crisis Intervention Specialist (PCIS) provides professional level mobile crisis intervention, evaluation/assessment, information and referral services for the Scottsdale Police Department. Police Crisis Intervention Specialists have a scheduled 40-hr work week, in addition to a rotating on-call to provide 24 hr. responses. This position works in collaboration with sworn and professional staff to accomplish their mission/objectives. Police Crisis Intervention Specialists frequently work independently and are expected to exercise sound decision making, aligned with best practices and in keeping with Scottsdale Police Department policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
- A Master's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling or a closely related field from an accredited educational institution.
- Three years of professional experience in crisis intervention, counseling, or social work.
- An equivalent combination of education and job-related experience may substitute for the educational requirements on a year-for-year basis.
- Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver's license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date. The Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles requires that out-of-state driver's licenses must be surrendered within 10 days of relocating to the State of Arizona.
- Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.
Essential Functions
- Responds, in person and by telephone, to police officer requests for psychological, sociological, and victim services.
- Performs intervention and assessment services in areas such as: domestic violence, sexual assault, mental health emergencies, child maltreatment, and runaways.
- Works in a variety of stressful and emotional situations on a 24-hour basis.
- Relocates victims of domestic violence or other life altering situations.
- Responds to private citizens, schools, and social service agencies requests for assistance.
- Refers and occasionally provides transportation to local treatment and other appropriate locations.
