Job Summary The Clark County Sheriff's Office Cadet Program is dedicated to providing a rewarding work and educational experience for college students who wish to pursue a career in law enforcement. Cadets receive paid on‑the‑job training in non‑enforcement activities, work part‑time hours, and are eligible for some benefits. The program is supervised by the Cadet Program Coordinator and may assign cadets to various units, including Civil, Property, or Front Desk/Reception. Cadets are supervised by the unit's supervisor and may be required to work shifts that include nights, weekends, and holidays, but shift schedules do not interfere with school commitments.Responsibilities Perform a variety of administrative and records management and maintenance duties.Assist the public at the front counter.Control access to the building or specific sections.Answer phones and radio calls.Operate office machines and compile data to prepare reports.Furnish a variety of information related to departmental activities to the public.Maintain, update, and modify files, lists, and other material.Receive, open, process, and distribute mail.Maintain supplies and inventories.Coordinate (or assist with coordinating) functions and activities; set up rooms and necessary equipment.In the Civil/CPL Unit, issue Concealed Pistol Licenses and perform fingerprinting for the public.Assist with logistics distribution and operational needs of the logistics and evidence units (Property Cadet).Participate in “Ride‑along” opportunities with Deputy Sheriffs.Perform other duties as assigned, regardless of unit assignment.Qualifications Citizen of the United States or lawful permanent resident.Must be at least eighteen years of age at application and hire.High school graduate with a GPA of 2.0 or higher.Enrolled in an accredited college or university at the time of appointment.Declare and maintain a major in Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice, or a related field (Public Administration, Psychology, Sociology, Business Administration).Maintain a minimum of 9 college credit hours per quarter (except summer term).Maintain a cumulative and per‑grading‑period GPA of 2.5 or higher while serving as a cadet.Maintain a valid driver's license.No convictions of a crime punishable in a state or federal institution.Provide a letter of recommendation from a Criminal Justice Coordinator, Professor, Academic Advisor, or, for recent high‑school graduates, a teacher, counselor, or principal.Pass a multi‑phase examination consisting of oral interviews, background investigation, polygraph, and drug screen.Basic knowledge of law‑enforcement practices, proper English usage, records management, and computer systems.Ability to learn, understand, explain, and apply codes and procedures; maintain confidentiality; follow written and verbal instructions; communicate effectively; use computer equipment with required speed and accuracy; diffuse difficult situations; and establish effective working relationships.Physical ability to walk, stand, bend, carry items up to 35 pounds, and occasionally drive a motor‑vehicle.Selection Process Online application review.Letter of recommendation submission.Oral interview.Background investigation.Polygraph examination.Drug screen.Salary Range Salary Grade: Sheriff Support.2Salary Range: $17.79 - $23.11 per hourBenefits Medical, vision, and dental insurance.Paid leave.Flexible spending accounts.Life insurance and long‑term disability.Retirement and deferred compensation.Additional employee benefits may vary by bargaining unit; details available at the Clark County Human Resources website.Equal Employment Opportunity Statement Clark County is an equal‑opportunity employer committed to providing equal opportunity in employment, access, and delivery of all county services.
