CORRECTIONS OFFICER II - CORRECTIONS PRISONCLASSIFICATION TITLE: Corrections Officer IIPURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATIONProvides security to the inside and the outside of the corrections facility.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSOversees security of inmates inside and outside of corrections facility; conducts inmate counts, visual inspections, and searches of inmates and inmates' property; monitors inmate movement and dorm activity; monitor alarms, cameras and other security equipment of the facility; conducts security checks throughout building, storage areas, fence line and perimeter.Transports inmates to job sites; logs inmates in and out; relays arrival and departure time to office; assigns tools to inmates; conducts inventory and inspections of tools and equipment; searches vehicles.Supervises inmates during showers, haircuts, meal times and preparation, clean up, recreation activities, etc.; issues medication to inmates; ensures all equipment and facility is clean and sanitary.Supervises inmate visitation; verifies identification of visitors; searches visitors.Controls inmate behavior; investigates suspicious activities of inmates; control disturbances and maintains order; identifies security threat groups; uses restraints and force as necessary; prepare performance reports on inmates.As control room officer, answers the telephone; directs and monitors phone calls; monitors and responds to radio traffic; maintains records; prepares various forms, logs and reports.Maintains knowledge of emergency operations procedures; contacts outside agencies for support in cases of emergency.Operates building equipment; locks and unlocks doors.ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONSSorts and passes out mail; inventories and passes out store purchases; provides escorts for vendors, repair persons, and delivery persons.Performs other related duties as required to include supervising details away from the institution.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSHigh School Diploma or GED; supplemented by one (1) year of experience as a Corrections Officer I; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.Must be 21 years of age.Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license.Must possess and maintain valid Basic Correctional Officer, Peace Officer, Firearms, First Aid, and CPR certifications.ADA COMPLIANCEPhysical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbing and balancing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds); may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials (up to 200 pounds).Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, taste, odor, texture, and visual cues or signals.
