About Us:The mission of the Fulton Fire Department is to aggressively protect and serve our community by delivering rapid emergency response, proactive fire prevention, and comprehensive safety education, while upholding the highest standards of professionalism, teamwork, and respect. The Fulton Fire Department, consisting of 24 career employees and three volunteer/part-time personnel, responds to all emergencies within the City of Fulton. We also have an auto aid agreement with the Central Callaway Fire Protection District and mutual aid agreements with the other departments in Callaway County. Further, the Fulton Fire Department provides service for vehicle accidents, hazardous materials, emergency medical services, and other such occurrences. Lays, connects, and operates hoses and other extinguishing equipment; directs fog and water streams; raises and climbs ladders; uses chemical lines and extinguishers; ventilates buildings with forcible entry tools; removes persons from danger; administers medical care; and extinguishes fires to protect life and property.Checks equipment and apparatus to ensure good working condition and reports defects; performs general maintenance work in the upkeep of fire station buildings and grounds; cleans, waxes, polishes, and otherwise maintains assigned equipment in order to ensure equipment is prepared for a response.Conducts routine flow testing and maintenance of hydrants throughout the city.Maintains a high level of operational readiness by participating in a continuing program of training, physical fitness and instruction, including attendance at scheduled drills and classes in order to simulate skills and ensure that firefighting, EMS and HazMat tasks are performed efficiently and effectively.Provides emergency medical care at the scene to patients, which may include providing support to EMS crews providing patient care and transport to emergency medical facilities.Assists in performing life safety inspections of commercial, industrial and residential buildings, tours high hazard facilities.Conducts fire safety classes and works with the public to increase fire safety awareness and provide for fire prevention. Conducts other life safety education with the public Provides public education and information on safety and fire prevention, including station tours, community events, school visits, and correct installation of car seats.May be assigned to a wide variety of special assignments in the department. Additional committee and special project assignments are expected throughout the departmentMay assume the role of the Driver, after departmental approval, in his/her absence.Note: Duties may vary. Employees may be assigned other tasks as needed.Qualifications:Requires a high school diploma or equivalentEmergency First Responder CertificationMissouri Firefighter I & 2 certificationMissouri HazMat AwarenessOperation CertificationsSkills: Successfully complete an intensive training program including but not limited to, the principles and methodologies of firefighting, emergency medical services and rescue work.Follow oral and written instructions.Read and interpret operating guidelines, technical manuals, and procedural guidelines.Independently view, learn, and apply applicable televised and online technical training.Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.Exercise sound, independent judgment; react appropriately, quickly, and calmly under stress.Deal effectively and courteously with associates and the general public.Possess a high degree of integrity, initiative, and strong work ethic with the ability to detect and avoid conflicts of interest.Must be able to ascend and work at heights required in emergency operations which may involve the tallest man-made structure or natural formation responded to by the Fulton Fire Department.Must be able to work in a limited or no visibility environment and in tight or confined spaces.Effectively welcome and embrace differences among employees and citizens.Performs effectively as a member of the team in carrying out the City and Fire Department's stated mission and philosophy.Perform the essential functions of the job without posing a direct threat to the health and safety of self or others.Requirements: Must pass pre-employment drug test/physical and submit to periodic drug testing as required by applicable lawsMay be required to work weekends or a variety of shiftsSubject to emergency call-inAt least 18 years of ageMust have no felony convictionsMust have a valid Missouri Drivers' LicenseAdditional Requirements: Ability to use strength and stamina to work in a superheated environment while wearing up to 100 lbs of full protection gear including self-contained breathing apparatusAbility to work in extreme fluctuations in temperaturesAbility to have strength to operate heavy tools and equipment up to 80 lbs. for up to 30 minutesAbility to stoop, bend, and lift continually over timeAbility to have strength and endurance to remove an unconscious adult from a hazardous situationAbility to work with one or a large group of severely injured, maimed or dead persons;Ability to control stress and follow directions in a life-threatening environmentAbility to work in confined spaces and at heights greater than 10 feetAbility to enter dangerous areas and perform dangerous tasksAbility to have awareness under pressure of changing fire or hazard conditionsAbility to communicate, understand and follow oral and written instructionsAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employeesAbility to work within the confines of a fire station for 24 hours or more
