PositionPatrol Officer – Police Department – Jackson, Michigan – Full‑time.CompensationGrade 82 / $59,738 – $82,867. Starting salary is based on experience: 2 years $70,138, 3 years $73,528, 4 years $77,002. Officers hired after October 1 2023 will receive a $20,000 hiring incentive, paid in a one‑time lump sum upon completion of the Field Training Officer Program.ResponsibilitiesPatrol assigned district or beat on foot, bicycle, or by vehicle.Enforce all laws and ordinances; preserve law and order; prevent crime.Respond to accidents, make detailed reports, and provide aid and assistance.Operate police radar or laser units and enforce traffic laws.Direct pedestrian and vehicular traffic; check for overtime or illegal parking; ensure streets are unobstructed and properly lit.Investigate complaints; perform clerical and maintenance work as requested.Keep accurate records of arrests and incidents; produce daily reports.Make public presentations on behalf of the department.Actively engage the community to form partnerships, consistent with the department's values, mission, and vision.Wear approved uniform attire, meet grooming standards, and use approved equipment.Operate firearms and drive a vehicle as required.Eligibility RequirementsU.S. citizen.Hold current Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) certification or be eligible for certification before the application deadline, or be enrolled in a Police Academy where certification is expected upon completion.Pass the MCOLES reading/writing test and other pre‑employment screening instruments.Lateral transfers from other law‑enforcement agencies are accepted.BenefitsPaid vacation leave, sick leave, bereavement leave, and holidays.Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance.Pension Program.Deferred Compensation Program.Health Care Savings Plan.Equal Opportunity StatementThe City of Jackson is committed to becoming a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive organization.
