In this role, you will field inspections and investigations to enforce state and City codes and ordinances relating to property maintenance, land use issues and public nuisances; investigates complaints, issues written notice of violations, and files complaints for code violations.Job Responsibilities Performs land use and environmental inspections to promote the safety of residents and obtain voluntary compliance with City codes; enforces City codes encompassing fire and health hazards, sub-standard buildings, nuisance abatement, land use, taxi & limo standards, and other compliance regulations.Responds to complaints of potential code violations relating to environmental control, signing, building occupancy, hazards, housing conditions, construction, land use, zoning, dumping, polluting, and other nuisances and code related matters.Receives, processes and investigates complaints from citizens and other City departments; compares facts to code requirements; contacts individuals to discuss violations and alternatives for resolving compliance issues; documents findings, and issues warnings and correction notices.Following established procedures, issues citations to people in clear violation of City codes and state regulations; documents each citation presented to owners and agents.Conducts follow-up inspections and verifies compliance.Works with neighborhood groups and residents to preserve and improve neighborhoods.Coordinates efforts with other City departments and agencies, as needed.Prepares technical documents and evidence and testifies in court; prepares comprehensive reports, case files, documents and background data to substantiate violations.Maintains and updates files and records related to inspection and enforcement activities; completes required project documentation, daily logs and reports.Interprets and explains codes, regulations, permit and code enforcement rules, and related policies and procedures to property owners and the public.Assist in the abatement of unsightly matter and other property maintenance violations.The above duties are not intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.Requirements Conducting investigations, maintaining accurate records and preparing reports.Making independent decisions while working in the field, analyzing situations accurately, and following established procedures.Handling stressful situations and difficult or angry people.Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with employees, officials, other agencies and the public.Operating a personal computer utilizing standard and specialized software.Communicating clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.Education and Experience High School Diploma or GED equivalent; customer service experience; building trades, knowledge and experience in computer data entry, computer programs, and inspections experience is preferred.Required Licenses or Certifications Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License.Registered as a Code Enforcement Officer with Texas Depart of Licensing Regulation.If not a Registered Code Enforcement Officer, candidate is required to obtain registration within twelve (12) months of hire and initially employed at Grade 17.Physical Demands / Work Environment Work is performed indoors, in the business office environment and outdoors in residential and rural environments.Required to perform light to moderate physical work, including walking, standing, driving, lifting objects weighing up to 50lbs while wearing a ballistic vest and periodically assisting in the abatement of violations, etc.Job postings may be withdrawn at any time at direction of the City Manager.#J-18808-Ljbffr
