Court Security - Deputy Marshal - TemporaryCity Hall, 555 Walnut Street, Abilene, Texas, United States of AmericaJob DescriptionPosted Thursday, April 17, 2025 at 6:00 AMGENERAL DESCRIPTIONUnder direction of the Division Manager – City Marshal, to perform a variety of duties involved in performing law enforcement‑related functions in facility security, transports, and arrests.SUPERVISION EXERCISEDThis position exercises no supervision.IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIESExecute all lawful service, including arrest warrants, subpoenas, and mental health commitments.Safely transport all prisoners, inmates, and mental health clients.Exercise authority in preventing or defusing potentially violent situations involving court personnel, the mentally ill, and others.Communicate with Abilene Police Department personnel, Taylor County Jail personnel, Legal Department staff, attorneys, and other court staff members, to obtain and disburse information necessary to court operations, transports, and arrests.Enter, retrieve, and interpret all types of data.Operate a City vehicle daily to various locations.Perform fundamental tasks associated with service or process including telephone calls to defendants and others, verifying identifying information, addresses and other identifying documents, etc.Attend all court sessions to assist the judge, record document dispositions, maintain order, and direct defendants, jurors, and witnesses. Include legible hand writing log entries, forms, etc. and transporting documents, cash, or persons to and from the court office, jail, and the Taylor County Law Enforcement Center, or other facilities throughout the state.OTHER JOB RELATED DUTIESPerform other job related duties and responsibilities as assigned.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESKnowledge of:Law enforcement methods, practices, and pertinent laws.Office practices, methods, and computer equipment.English language including spelling, vocabulary, grammar, and punctuation.Skill to:Safely operate a motor vehicle.Maintain order and safety in various situations.Operate office and police equipment, including computer equipment.Safely use and care for firearms.Ability to:Cope with situations firmly, courteously, tactfully, and with respect for others.Understand and follow oral and written instructions.Maintain records and files; assemble and organize data and prepare logs.Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.Safely and effectively transport detainees or mental health clients.Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, both internally and externally.Follow and embrace the City of Abilene Core Values – Respect, Integrity, Service Above Self, and Excellence in All We Do.Perform as a team member in a manner that accomplishes the Division's mission and treats team members with dignity, courtesy, and respect.Experience and Training Guidelines:For positions with more than one level, all listed requirements at the lower levels are required at the higher levels.
