Deputy Sheriff

Thank you for your interest in a profession as a Deputy Sheriff with Rock Island County. In order to be considered for the Deputy Sheriff positions, applicants must pass both an agility test and a written test. An application packet must be completed and turned into Rock Island County Merit Commission Administrative Assistant no later than 3:00 PM on Thursday, June 25th, 2026. AGILITY TEST FOR DEPUTY SHERIFF APPLICANTS

Date: Saturday, June 27, 2026

Time: Testing will begin promptly at 9:00 AM

Location: Augustana College- PepsiCo Center, 1025 30th St., Rock Island, IL. NOTE: You must bring your government issued photo identification card in order to take the test. (i.e. driver's license) Wear work out clothing and running shoes.

WRITTEN TEST FOR DEPUTY SHERIFF APPLICANTS

Date: Saturday, June 27, 2026

Time: Testing will begin promptly 11 A.M.

Location: Rock Island County Sheriff Office, 1317 3rd Ave., Rock Island, IL 61201 NOTE: You must bring your government issued photo identification card in order to take the test. (i.e. driver's license)

New Deputy starting salary is $67,555.50, after 1 year the salary will increase to $71,988.28

Lateral Entry Program for certified officers up to 5 Years with salaries up to $75,897.16

70 sworn Deputy Sheriff - Numerous Lateral Assignments Available

Expanded 20 - mile residency for Deputy Sheriffs outside Rock Island County (IL residency only following completion of probation)

Take Home Squad Car Program - Start and end work from your home

RETIREMENT - Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF)

7.5% of gross income per pay period

Contributions are tax deferred.

Eligible for disability benefits after 12 months of consecutive service

County contributions vested after 10 years

Death benefits

Voluntary Additional Contributions with guaranteed return

HEALTH INSURANCE

Health, Dental and Vision insurance are available on the 1st day of the month following 30 days of employment

Includes life insurance for employee of $10,000.00 with health insurance

VACATION

Vacation time available for use after one year of service

Increased vacation time available with added years of service, available for use after December 1st of each year

SICK TIME

Accumulate at eight (8) hours per month of service, available for use after 90-day probation period

HOLIDAYS

14 paid holidays per year

PERSONAL TIME

Two (2) days of paid leave after completion of each year of service available December 1st of each year

BEREAVEMENT

Three (3) days of paid leave of normal scheduled days of work immediately following date of death of an immediate family member, available after 90-day probation period
