Overview
The Security Guard/Group Leader supports the overall operation of the facility by maintaining a safe, secure environment while also assisting with meal preparation, warming, and service. This role requires attentiveness, reliability, and a commitment to ensuring both the protection of people and the proper handling of food service tasks.
Responsibilities
- Monitor entrances, exits, and common areas to prevent unauthorized access and ensure adherence to safety protocols.
- Enforce program rules and policies consistently and respectfully.
- Respond promptly to emergencies or incidents and report them to program supervisors according to established procedures.
- Assist staff in setting up and cleaning activity areas, including classrooms, gyms, and playgrounds.
- Support the program staff in managing group activities and maintaining order.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, incidents, and any safety-related concerns.
- Assist the directors with providing information to the parents/guardians, and program staff regarding safety concerns, incidents, or changes in procedures.
- Participate in training sessions, staff meetings, and emergency drills as required.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, and move quickly during program hours.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. occasionally.
- Ability to supervise and interact with children during active play, including outdoor activities.
Work Environment:
- Afterschool program sites including classrooms, gyms, playgrounds, and outdoor areas.
- Fast-paced environment requiring attention to detail, and strong observational skills.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework in education, youth development, or related field preferred.
- Previous experience working with children in educational, recreational, or childcare settings preferred.
- Knowledge of basic safety procedures, first aid, and CPR is highly desirable.
- Ability to supervise groups of children effectively and compassionately.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to respond calmly and quickly in emergency situations.
- S-95 fire certification OR F07 fire certification
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work flexible hours as program schedules require.
- Must be compliant and familiar with the NYS Security Guard of Act 1992
