Job Title
Under general supervision, provide information to the public regarding City programs and policies; to perform initial interviews of persons filing complaints regarding possible code violations; to evaluate information to determine proper initial response or referral; to providecomplaint processing and routing, database and file management; and to provide administrative and technical support to the code enforcement and inspection staff.
Duties
- Act as primary point of contact for the code enforcement unit for general inquiries, and interview person reporting or inquiring about possible code violations. Determine from available information whether a possible code violation exists or whether complainant would be better serviced through referral to another City department or outside agency.
- Responds to public inquiries and complaints in a courteous manner
- Document complaints and enter related into the City database system
- Provides information to the general public, homeowner, tenants, the business community, other departments, and outside agencies regarding codes, ordinances and code enforcement policies and practices
- Assemble case files including obtaining property records, property owner information, case history, and other information related to properties and City programs, such as weed abatement and CDBG
- Assist code enforcement and inspection staff in the preparation of letters, notices, and complaints for the City Attorney
- Assist in joint inspections in the field on occasion, assisting with photos, paperwork, and related duties. Researches ownership records and prior complaints
- Schedules code enforcement inspections, and explains inspection procedures and regulations to members of the public
- Provides assistance in developing the department budget. May track relevant expenditures
- Tracks property information, such as complaints and inquiries, using computerized database or spreadsheet applications
- Utilizes computer software such as spreadsheets, code enforcement software, and database applications to input and maintain records and/or conduct research as needed
- Reads, interprets, and applies municipal and stat codes
- Prepares public notices as directed, applying provisions of City ordinances, and arranges for publication and/or mailing of notices
- Maintains the code enforcement files and filing system
- Other duties/tasks as assigned
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Minimum of a High School diploma or GED
- Two (2) years of inspection or code enforcement experience preferred
Certificates and Licenses:
- Must have or obtain Oklahoma Basic Code Enforcement Certification within one year
- Must have valid driver license
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of current municipal and State codes and regulations of other entities related to code enforcement
- Ability to correctly interpret and apply municipal codes, regulations, policies, procedures and standards AND explain to the public in a clear and concise language
- Ability to utilize a variety of descriptive data and information from a various sources
- Knowledge of computer and related software such as spreadsheets, word processing and database applications to input, query and maintain data
