Technology Systems & Security Specialist

The Technology Systems & Security Specialist is responsible for planning, implementing, securing, and managing the organization's information systems, cloud platforms, and network infrastructure. This role expands beyond traditional security monitoring to include day-to-day administration of enterprise systems, cloud services, and security platforms, ensuring confidentiality, integrity, availability, and operational reliability across the technology environment.

The position serves as a key technical resource supporting cybersecurity, systems engineering, and platform operations in alignment with organizational business objectives and IT strategic priorities.

Security Operations & Risk Management

  • Stay current with the evolving cybersecurity threat landscape, vulnerabilities, and mitigation strategies.
  • Monitor, analyze, and respond to suspicious network, system, and application activity.
  • Monitor and restrict access to sensitive, confidential, or regulated data across on-premises and cloud environments.
  • Investigate security incidents, document findings, implement response actions, and generate reports for IT leadership and key stakeholders.
  • Implement and maintain security controls such as encryption, firewalls, endpoint protection, identity controls, and secure authentication mechanisms.
  • Routinely identify, test, deploy, and verify security patches across systems, applications, and infrastructure.

Systems Administration

  • Administer, monitor, and support enterprise network infrastructure, including Meraki firewalls, switches, wireless access points, and network policies.
  • Manage and maintain the Verkada platform, including cameras, access control, alarms, and associated security configurations.
  • Administer Microsoft 365 services, including but not limited to:
    • Microsoft Defender (Endpoint, Identity, Office 365)
    • Exchange Online
    • SharePoint Online
    • Microsoft Purview (Data Loss Prevention, Information Protection, eDiscovery)
  • Support identity and access management, including Azure AD / Entra ID, role-based access controls, conditional access, and MFA policies.
  • Manage and support cloud services in Microsoft Azure, Google Workspace, and Amazon Web Services, including security configuration, resource monitoring, access controls, and cost-awareness best practices.
  • Maintain system availability, performance, and reliability through proactive monitoring, troubleshooting, and remediation.

Compliance, Documentation & Process Improvement

  • Assist with security and compliance initiatives (e.g., PCI DSS) by implementing and maintaining required technical safeguards.
  • Document system configurations, security controls, operational procedures, and user guides.
  • Continually improve IT processes and procedures; ensure standard operating procedures are consistently followed and kept current.
  • Provide security awareness guidance and technical training to users and IT staff as needed.

Project & Collaboration

  • Participate in the analysis, design, testing, implementation, and maintenance of security and systems solutions based on business requirements.
  • Demonstrate strong project planning and execution skills to meet timelines, quality standards, and organizational priorities.
  • Collaborate with other IT staff, vendors, and business stakeholders to support enterprise technology initiatives.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

  • Approximately 90% sitting and 10% standing/walking.
  • Direct interaction with administrative staff, management, and technical teams.
  • Requires professionalism, adaptability, and the ability to work in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required for technical documentation and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Works independently with minimal supervision; requires high levels of analytical and problem-solving ability.

Qualifications

Typically, Monday Friday, 8:00am 5:00pm. May require working outside of normal hours including weekends and holidays.

Must pass pre-employment drug screening.

4 - Year College Degree. IT Certifications in appropriate discipline preferred. Willing to substitute relevant work experience in lieu of the above education and certification requirement.

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills. Knowledge of system, application, and cloud security threats and vulnerabilities. Experience with network hardware including firewalls, routers, switches, and wireless technologies. Understanding of LAN/WAN architectures and TCP/IP networking. Working knowledge of virtualization and cloud computing platforms. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel. Familiarity with PCI compliance preferred.

Ability to quickly gain proficiency with a broad range of security and systems platforms. Strong communication skills for explaining complex technical concepts to varied audiences. Excellent organizational, planning, and time management skills. Self-motivated learner with a strong sense of ownership and accountability. Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
