Job Title This job will be accepting job applications until the position is filled.Annual Salary: $46,897.50 - $49,237.50Hourly: $24.05 - $25.25Department: Livability & Tourism, Public SafetyDivision: LivabilityFLSA: Non-ExemptJob Description: In this role, you will inspect property and investigate complaints concerning violations of municipal code.Examples Of Duties: Inspects designated areas periodically for evidence of violation.Ensures that property owners, contractors etc. have proper permits.Interviews residents and inspects area to investigate reports of violations.Locates property owners and explains nature of inspection and investigation findings, and encourages voluntary action to resolve problems.Studies laws and statutes in municipal code to determine specific nature of code violations and type of action to be taken.Issues notices of violation to owners not complying with request for voluntary correction of problems.Prepares case materials when legal action is required to solve problems, and may appear in court to testify if needed.Conducts or participates in informational meetings for residents and property owners.Maintains appropriate records and prepares required reports.Performs other duties as assigned.Basic Qualifications: 6 months of related experience and/or trainingAssociate's Degree (AA/AS), or an equivalent combination of education and trainingValid state issued driver's license.Working knowledge of Microsoft Office or similar softwareOther Necessary Requirements: May require evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.In the event of major storms or other emergency situations, this position may be subject to 24-hour shifts or any other emergency schedule that is necessary to meet the City's needs.The City of Charleston is firmly committed to Equal Employment Opportunity (EEOC) as a fundamental policy to be implemented and observed in our daily operation.
