Scope of Position The Department of Clinical Epidemiology is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for patients, visitors, faculty, and staff by preventing and controlling the spread of infection at OSUWMC. In collaboration with Infection Preventionists, the Surveillance Technician conducts and reports surveillance on healthcare‑acquired infections (HAIs) using standardized definitions and other organisms of epidemiologic importance to identify trends. The Surveillance Technician uses electronic databases and software tools to report data to national and local stakeholders in collaboration with the Data Manager. They perform process‑measure audits using chart reviews and process data on hand hygiene, isolation compliance, and HAI prevention bundle elements to provide feedback to IPs, staff, and hospital leadership to drive successful outcomes and ensure compliance with applicable regulatory standards.Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in nursing, public health, epidemiology, clinical laboratory science, medical technology, or related field, or associates in nursing required.At least a year of healthcare or public health experience preferred.Knowledge of principles of epidemiology, infection prevention, infectious diseases, and microbiology preferred.Demonstrated ability in the following key skills/attributes: Analytical, problem solving, collaboration, oral and written communication, conflict resolution, data mining, report writing, data presentation, adaptability, self‑motivation, familiarity with software technologies, and ability to flex schedule to ensure that off‑shifts receive expertise and guidance from the Department of Clinical Epidemiology.Role Information FUNCTION: QualitySUB FUNCTION: Infection Prevention and ControlCAREER BAND: Individual Contributor - ClinicalCAREER LEVEL: 1Final candidates are subject to successful completion of a background check.
