Crossing Guard

Auxiliary Compensation Plan Salary Range: $17.40/hour Shift Type: Part-Time Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt Reports To: Crossing Guard Supervisor Hourly Salary Schedule: 2 hours per instructional day EMPLOYMENT DATE TO BE DETERMINED

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

To present a warning to motorists, using safety training and equipment, to assist pedestrian school children to cross to and from school in heavily trafficked areas that are identified by authorities and clearly marked and designated as pedestrian crossings.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification: High School Diploma or GED

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

The crossing guard must exhibit knowledge of standardized procedures and techniques in crossing students to and from school The crossing guard must show skills in communication (verbal and nonverbal), social behavior, modeling and tolerance

EXPERIENCE: None

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Must be punctual and regular in attendance You must report any absences as soon as possible Appearance must be maintained as well groomed with a calm demeanor Must be physically fit Must be able to move out of harm's way, move rapidly to and from positions Must raise flag high and visible when crossing pedestrians Must have acceptable visual capacity and auditory reception Must be able to show the ability to make instant and critical decisions if situations arise Must be able to use both arms and hands simultaneously Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Mental Demands: Ability to fill out simple reports. Physical demands/environmental factors: Repeated hand and arm movements Working outside Working in excessive heat/cold conditions; damp conditions.
