Job DescriptionCourt Security Officer (Part-Time) within the City of Seguin. Responsibilities include basic security duties and routine screening of individuals entering the court facility.Summary of PositionProvides basic security and conducts routine screening of persons entering court facility. Has frequent contact with the general public, other departmental employees, legal officials, and law enforcement officers.Examples of WorkPerforms entrance control by enforcing the building entry and identification system, which includes operating security screening equipment to detect weapons, contraband and prohibited items; checking items such as handbags, briefcases, computers, packages, baby carriages, wheel chairs, etc.Directs individuals to appropriate locations in the court.Stands guard at assigned post while court is in session.Responsible for assisting with courtroom security, inspection of courtroom prior to proceeding, testing of electronic security devices and other duties concerning security of the court area.May perform roving patrol of court facilities and grounds.Court Security Officer dresses appropriately for the position, always presenting neat and clean appearance.Court Security Officer does not restrain individuals or intervene in potentially volatile situations but summons the on-duty Warrant Officer to handle these situations.Performs such other duties as may be assigned.Required Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesKnowledge of modern office practices and procedures, including use of personal computer for record-keeping and reporting.Working knowledge of local and state court rules.Familiarity with electronic security scanning equipment.Ability to communicate effectively in English (English/Spanish bilingual preferred), perform job duties politely and accurately in stressful situations; establish and maintain effective working relationships with judges, members of the legal profession, and the general public; communicate and understand, explain, interpret and apply rules, regulations, directives and procedures.Acceptable Experience and TrainingHigh school graduation or equivalent and previous law enforcement, military police or security experience preferred. Candidates must be at least 21 years of age, able to successfully pass pre-employment drug screen, and be physically able to perform essential job functions.
