OverviewFairgrounds St. Pete is seeking a skilled technician with expertise in AV/lighting and electrical aptitude to join our team as an Exhibit Maintenance Technician. At Fairgrounds St. Pete, we proudly showcase a diverse array of customized and artist‑crafted artwork installations, accompanied by audio, lighting, projection, and interactive electronic devices that communicate through a computer network.ResponsibilitiesConduct routine startup/shutdown/setup of exhibits for normal operation and for eventsDiligently monitor the museum during operation to ensure a seamless experience for visitorsSupport daily technical operations of the exhibit and maintain operations logsPerform routine preventative maintenance to ensure exhibits run smoothly and stay in top conditionDevelop a comprehensive knowledge of all exhibits, scenic elements and exhibit systemsTroubleshoot exhibits and related equipment in order to identify problems and develop solutionsTroubleshoot low voltage devices, circuits and wiring using multimeter, replacing and resoldering new components as neededTroubleshoot AC power components, building outlets, circuit breakers and power distribution devicesIdentify specialty repair jobs, and coordinate with team members or trade of expertise to ensure proper completionInterpret specifications, schematics and diagrams and construct layouts and reference points for workersProduce schedules and timelines for conducting closed‑day/after‑hour repairs and upgradesMaintain a maintenance inventory, specify and order materials/supplies as neededContribute to standard operating procedures (SOPs) to improve quality and efficiency of maintaining exhibits over timeSelf‑learn new skills, tools, techniques and software to tackle new challenges as they ariseWork closely with our team to uphold our commitment to creating high quality experiences through material craft and artistryRequirements2 to 4+ years experience in a related fieldAC electrical and/or low voltage experienceExperience with DMX lighting systems and/or projection mappingStrong general knowledge of wiring, power supplies, controllers, projectors, video monitors, audio equipment, lighting fixtures, and how these elements work together to create an interactive, immersive experienceExperience with electrical diagnostic tools—ohm meters and voltage testersExtensive hand and power tool experienceCommitment to working in a safe and efficient manner, especially when working with electricity, on ladders or at heightsAbility to safely mount AV/lighting components from trusses at ceiling heightAbility to cleanly manage and route cabling in‑ceiling with attention to service loops and cable strain reliefPosition or moving of objects up to 75 lbs; ability to lift 40 lbs overheadGood verbal and written communication skillsStrong attention to detail in technical record keepingNice to HavesExperience with computer systems and networkingExperience with microcontrollers and the Arduino ecosystemExperience with creative coding frameworks and web programming using JavaScript/NodeJSCertification in a related field, such as technical theater, carpentry/fabrication, mechanical or electrical designInformationLocation: St. Petersburg, FloridaCompensation: Starting at \$20/hr based on skills and experienceFull‑time position: 40 hours per weekBenefits and Work ScheduleEligible for paid time off and other benefitsSchedule will overlap weekend daysOccasional evening and overnight required as job duties demandWork environment is primarily indoors, with exposure to sonic environments, dim lighting, visual effects including some strobing lights, special effects, fog machines and small and/or enclosed spaces.
