Job Summary The Fire Cadet position is a 12 – 18-month program that provides Baltimore City High School graduates between the ages of 17 and 20 the opportunity to become a full-time member of the Baltimore City Fire Department after successfully completing their Fire Cadet program.Essential Functions 17-20 years of age (date of hire)Baltimore City ResidentPass a physical agility testSuccessfully complete a criminal background investigationMust have a Maryland Driver's License by completion of programMaintain a clean-shaven appearance and good hygiene. Artificial hair color is not permitted.Hair extending below the collar must be gathered together and restrained between the shoulder blades and not visibly extend below the shoulder blades.Sideburns will not extend below the lowest part of the ear.Mustaches shall not extend below the corner of the mouthBeards and Goatees are not permitted.Minimum Qualifications Graduated from an accredited Baltimore City High School or General Education Development (GED) certified diploma recognized by the State Board of Education.Strong work ethic and proactive critical thinking skills.Ability to understand and follow simple written and oral instructions.Physical fitness to include strength and cardiovascular.Additional Information Background Check: Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.Probation: All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-month probation.Benefits The City of Baltimore offers medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, optional life, AD&D, and FSA plans.
