Job SummaryThe Clark County Sheriff's Office Cadet Program is dedicated to providing a rewarding work and educational experience for individuals wishing to pursue a career in law enforcement. The program offers college students paid on‑the‑job training in non‑enforcement activities. Cadets work part time, are eligible for some benefits, and may be assigned to a variety of units under the supervision of a sworn member or civilian professional. They may work shifts including night, weekend, and holiday, and will not be scheduled at times that interfere with school.QualificationsCitizen of the United States or lawful permanent resident.Age eighteen or within six months of turning eighteen at the time of application; eighteen at the time of hire.High school graduate with a GPA of 2.0 or higher.Enrolled in an accredited college or university at the time of appointment.Declare and maintain a major in Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice, or a related field (Public Administration, Psychology, Sociology, Business Administration).Maintain a minimum of 9 college credit hours per quarter, or the equivalent, except during summer term.Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 while serving as a cadet.Maintain a valid driver's license.Have not been convicted of any crime punishable in a state or federal institution.Submit a letter of recommendation from the Criminal Justice Coordinator, professor, academic advisor, or, if recently graduated, a high‑school teacher, counselor, principal, or CCSO Explore Advisor.Pass a multi‑phase examination that includes oral interviews, a background investigation, a polygraph, and a drug screen.Knowledge ofBasic law enforcement practices; proper English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation; records management; various computer systems, protocols, and administrative rules; use of computers, databases, and standard business software; customer service and telephone etiquette; office procedures; safety policies and work practices applicable to the role.Ability toLearn, understand, explain, and apply codes and procedures; maintain confidential information; follow written and verbal instructions; communicate effectively verbally and in writing; use a computer keyboard and other office equipment with required speed and accuracy; operate a variety of computer software and databases; handle difficult situations and upset individuals; establish and maintain effective working relationships with all encountered.Work EnvironmentThe position is primarily performed in a restricted office setting. Tasks include walking, standing, bending, and carrying light items up to 35 pounds.
