Minimum requirements are (2) shifts worked in 6‑week schedule.Job SummaryParamedics demonstrate competency in trauma and medical situations and possess the knowledge and necessary skills to provide lifesaving interventions in a pre‑hospital setting. They administer emergency care and treatment, determine the extent of illness or injury, and establish priority for required emergency care. Paramedics provide advanced medical care to patients and may assist and give direction to additional EMS responders at the scene and/or during transport.Paramedics assess patients and provide emergency care to adults, infants and children, medical and trauma patients. They determine the appropriate facility for transport based on patient condition and injury extent unless otherwise indicated by medical direction. They continuously assess the patient during transport, administer additional care as indicated or given by medical direction, use equipment in the transport environment, and report to the receiving facility's physician.The role requires good communication with receiving facilities for medical direction and patient status updates, extensive written documentation of patient condition and treatment, understanding of legal, moral, and ethical issues, and confidentiality maintenance. Paramedics also assist with patient care at the receiving facility, including lifting and moving patients as required, and provide a welcoming, educational environment for students.Physical demands include climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials. Paramedics attend training classes to maintain national certification, state licensure, and stay current with new developments. Hours may include overtime, call, backup call, nights, days, weekends, and holidays.If hired into an emergency department, the paramedic will collaborate with the nursing team under the direction and supervision of the attending physician.
