The Dispatcher is responsible and accountable for performing all work associated with the Dispatch Office. Working in conjunction with the EMS and Medi‑Van staff, the Dispatcher handles all the day‑to‑day and ongoing scheduling and dispatching of all ambulances and medi‑vans for the Gardner and Athol stations. The Dispatcher also has concurrent job responsibilities of scheduling staff when vacancies in the schedule occur and maintaining the smooth operation of EMS and Medi‑van staff at all bases. Each Dispatcher must communicate with the billing department throughout their shift when scheduling services for customers.ResponsibilitiesSchedule Medi‑Van and Ambulance service for customers and patients when called in conjunction with the Billing Office to ensure all insurance requirements are metDispatches all vehicles in a timely manner including emergent ambulances by utilizing appropriate protocols for ALS vs. BLS level of care in accordance with the Medical Priority Dispatch SystemFollow all appropriate policies, procedures and protocols from the company in conjunctions with regional, state, professional and federal regulationsAccurately establish priorities and utilize resources for dispatch in a timely manner when multiple requests are receivedMaintain appropriate telephone answering and radio skills and use in accordance with all policies, procedures and protocolsCommunicate service area directions effectively to all emergency responders and medi‑van staff out on the roadComplete all office required documentation in a consistent and accurate manner both manually and electronicallyContinuously monitor radio frequencies and respond to all communication in a timely mannerCommunicate any outstanding problems, issues or concerns to the oncoming shiftTake appropriate action in the event of vehicle or equipment failure or other personnel issues during the shiftTake appropriate action in the event of a MCI during the shiftAssure all ambulance and medi‑van paperwork is completed for each call and that the required billing information is attached for each stationAssure cleanliness of the dispatch office and equipment and paperwork availability to ensure the office runs smoothly during shiftConsistently document information required by other departments in conjunction with quality monitoring activities as assignedParticipate in yearly evaluation process and goal setting for the next yearParticipate in investigations of complaints as it concerns yourselfAttend scheduled meetings and educational offerings of our policyParticipate in the orientation process of new dispatch, EMS and medi‑van staff as directedParticipate in any on‑site inspection processes during working shift when dispatch matters are involvedProvide input into policies, procedures and protocols that affect the dispatch function at Wood'sMaintain current knowledge of all internal and external regulations that affect the dispatch officeAct in the best interest of the patient by providing high quality of patient care to reflect well on the company and yourselfPerform other duties as assigned by ManagementBasic QualificationsHigh School Diploma or GEDCurrent certification in BCLS/CPR at the Health Care Provider or Professional Rescuer Level and Basic First Aid by any accrediting agency such as: American Heart Association, American Red Cross or the National Safety Council. This certification is to include the use of the SAED.
